I have just started learning Python. Wish me good luck!

generators, iterators, and decorators, oh my! 2 years ago

Python is a big language, but it’s also a fairly straightforward one. You can achieve basic skills with it in no time, and regular practice will bring the rest.

I don’t know how to build a Python extension in C, but I’m comfortable with everything else. Building language extensions was never my thing anyhow.

How do I know I will have mastered Python: 2 years ago

1. Will have written approximately 10 applications in Python with the majority approaching 500 or more lines of code.

2. Will have created 4 web pages using atleast two different web libraries (django, web.py, turbo gears or zope or others)

3. Will have used PyUnit frequently.

4. Will have substantial criticisms on Python with respect to other languages.

5. Will have re-used Python code.

6. Will be extremely familiar with the standard library and satellite libraries.

7. Will possess a general understanding of the Python compiler.

Am I a Python master? 4 years ago

I don’t know if I “master” Python, but after using generators and decorators (and they’re a great help!) in a real Python script at work, I guess my level is above average.
