I’ve been doing better. Now I raise my hand for things I know I’ll get right. I’m still too scared to volunteer my opinion if I’m not sure it’s right (although I know there’s no right or wrong opinion). But it doesn’t help that the overall atmosphere of my classroom is pretty negative. My teacher is being a bit more supportive but my other classmates are stuck up and they dominate any discussion we have so that I can’t get any of my opinions in.

I really need to do this. I need to bring my grade up in English, and my teacher gives us participation grades so I really need to begin participating more. My problem is that my teacher makes me feel really stupid whenever I try to participate. I’ve been trying more lately and the last time I offered one of my opinions in discussion, my teacher gave me this look like it was the dumbest thing he ever heard. So I feel really discouraged, but I’m going to keep trying because I really need to bring up my grade.

I’m making progress.
I’m no longer one of the silent students in my non-lecture-style classes.
I give my opinions occasionally, and I feel encouraged by the professor/classmates each time, even when nothing profound’s been said.
I’m not ever going to be the best participator in any class, I don’t think. I’m a quiet person around people I don’t know, and I always gave been. I’m making my peace with that.

As I am coming to the end of the term I am participating more in class because I am more comfortable, but I don’t want to cross this off until next term to see how I am at the beginning of the term with new people in new classes.

Yeah, my goal is to participate at-least once every class with something original and not just answering a homework question. I also want to give my opinions, ask questions, and explain things every time I possibly can without saying stupid things.

Don’t be afraid to express my opinions or ask questions.
Get a better participation grade
Develop communication skills
Develop better relationships with teachers, which will help on college recs
*Try to participate once in every class

I am getting there. I am getting over stage fright and I am doing it with strength.

I haven’t been participating in class since i was in kindergarden. now i am in 8th grade and towards the end of every school year i seem to participate a little more but i have never asked a question ever in my life and i have never asked for help even if i really need it because im afraid i will ask something stupid.

I really should do this. Ever since fifth grade, teachers have been saying that I need to speak more. It’s not that I don’t have anything to say, or that I generally quiet [I’m not, I’m just quiet in class]. I think the problem is that I don’t want to be judged by people I don’t know too well.
It hasn’t hurt my grade too much, but it brought me down one letter grade once.
