It’s the end of my taster days at sixth form, and my A-level choices are all sorted out now! So starting in September, I will be studying Biology, Chemistry, English Literature, and History! this means the beginning of an intense two years of studying and exams, as I am determined to get the grades that I need. Am slightly worried about the chemistry, as all people keep telling my is how hard it is, but hopefully if I stay focused and work, work , work, I should be ok. Fingers crossed! 10 months ago

So far in my goal to be accepted to a medical school, I’ve been working on building up my extra curricular activities, and my work experience as I know these things can make or break an entrant. I’ve been working in an elderly people’s care home now for over a year (I began as a volunteer, but was then offered a paid position) which I really love. I obviously am not allowed to do any proper caring as I’m only 16, but I work in the activities team, so I chat to the residents, play games, dance with them, do singalongs, play cards, do gardening, and all sorts of things. I’d like to think that me being there helps to make their day a little bit better, as I think some of the more able residents get terribly bored. I’ve done a weeks work experience in some university laboratories as well, which was incredible! I loved it! I was allowed to do so much! It was really good fun! I’ve also done a weeks summer work experience at my local doctors surgery, I was only allowed to work on the reception desks, and in admin etc. but it gave me a really good insight in to how a surgery functions. I did apply for a volunteer position at my local hospital, but I was told that you have up be 17, because of health and safety. :-( I’ll just have to try again in a few months time I guess. So that’s it so far I think. I’m still doing my gcse’s so I guess that they count as working towards it? 12 months ago
