I was in Thailand and had a chance to visit a cattle farm. It wasn’t only a typical cattle farm but also a tourist attraction. While I was strolling in the farm with my tour group, the tour guide asked if anyone wants to milk a cow. I said yes, and I did it.

How I did it: I had wanted to this for years and years and years. I was down at my parents' cottage this July and went to the local farmers' market. There was a farmer selling milk, butter, cheese, and beef (they have some beef cattle in addition to their dairy herd). I asked if I could come and learn how to milk and he said yes. He does machine milk, but because you have to test each teat first to make sure that there is milk a… Read how I did it…
RuckusMaker is going to get back on 43T, I promise!
How I did it: It was just one of those things I really wanted to do, and everything just fell into place. I had a good friend from a small rural town in Maryland. When my friend found out I wanted to milk a cow, she thought it was pretty funny, but said there were a lot of cows around her and she could probably find one for me to milk. She found out that her little brother was in the boy scouts with a boy who lived on a dairy farm and her dad set th… Read how I did it…
How I did it: I was at a country fair and had the opportunity to try it. It was kind of fun, but not too fun. The cow didn't seem to care. Squeeze and pull. Read how I did it…

This may have started my desire to have my own little “family farm.”

I saw this on his list, and thought, Yeah! I wanna do this too! There should ample opportunity where I live. Now, how’m i going to make it happen …
It’s important to me to know how to do this (and I’m not sure if I still can) because of the following, terrifying experience: Once while camping in Sweden, in the midst of the (almost) wilderness, a stray cow came towards us, in pain because of the full udder. I was incredibly relieved, and so was the cow, that my mother knew how to milk!
(I hope the cow decided against further wanderlust there and then.)
Later, when I was still a kid, we got our milk bottles directly from a farm and I got to try milking a couple of times. The beginning is hard, but then it’s totally worth it – quite meditative! I do think I miss the rubber boots more than the cows though ;-)
I haven’t milked a cow, but am a fiction writer. I set a story in the western plains of the US in about 1919, the main characters own a dairy so they milk 43 cows every morning.I checked milking machines, not in common use until the 1920s so hand milking is consistent. I like to be correct in time line. But I don’t know how many cows can be handled by hand. Starting at 4am I know and I assumed two people working together could finish 22 each by 7 AM, but I’m not sure. Input appreciated. The book is Marisa and the Enema Fetish, not a kids book, human sexuality is part of it and has one sex scene it it. I put it up on line at Amazon as a beta copy to edit, hoping for editing of things like the milking requirements. I lived and worked in ranching country for years, but never worked on a dairy, or milked a cow. My father’s family owned a dairy, he talked about it, but he’s been dead a long time. I don’t remember the details. I know he milked cows in the 1930s. I’m spending my retirement writing, and not many people now have ever milked a cow, including me, but it is a fun time period to write about.
thanks

I do not eat beef.
Because I love cows.
This is the only reason.
I used to enjoy beef a whole lot.
And then I started loving cows.
And their noses.
And their fur.
And I would like to milk one, I think.
perfectlioness 4 months til my wedding!!! Yikes! Yay!
get to milk a cow in Poland. I was a bit disappointed. But they are not used to people, just like in the US, they are machine milked, and I did not want to get kicked, also for the sanitation purposes. But I did get to see a brand new baby cow just born. And had the baby cows gnawing on my hands, very cute!
I am leaving this on my list though, because I really want to do it!
