Westie can never say the right things
Ok…so maybe I got some help with this. Initially I wanted to do this by myself but realized that it would probably turn out better if I got a little advice and help. What started out as a self project turned out to be more of a family thing just cause everyone wanted to take part…and who was I to deny them? :)
This particular bookshelf started it’s life out as an entertainment shelf (?) which I kept the frame from. I knocked out all the drawers and previous shelving and inserted my own custom shelves. Backboard was inserted as well as additional boards along the bottom to strengthen.

Westie can never say the right things
I have no previous carpentry skills what-so-ever. I want a specific kind of bookcase that I haven’t been able to find in furniture and retail stores so I have resorted to building it myself. I suppose this project will be something short of a miracle if I can pull it off and therefore I am super excited to begin it. Hopefully I can get it done before I move into my new apartment. Wish me luck!

I just bought my first house and the previous owners had a horrible dark wood wainscoting in the dining room… I ripped it out and left it in the garage for a couple months thinking there might be something I could do with them. I then got the idea of building a few bookcases for specific collections of my books seeing as they were stacked three deep in the one shabby one we had.

my grandpa was a carpenter, my dad was a carpenter….......i wish i could do carpentry. But where do you go to learn? No one ever taught me because I was a girl….....always got sent into the kitchen (bummer). I don’t want to do huge stuff, just bookcases, small tables, simple stuff. I love the smell of wood!

..the thing is to remember the value of mid-shelf supports, if it’s a BIG bookcase… also: L brackets are your friend.

Woohoo! I finished my bookcase. It came out nothing like I planned but it will work none the less.
One thing to remember is measure at least 2x, I think I needed 4 or 5 measures…also, mark where you want to cut or drill.

I’ve been working on this CD case since early July. I was almost done but realized my original plan won’t work. I’ve reevaluted and think I can make the same pieces work in a new way…now…finish.

I’m taking an adult-ed woodshop class. I want to fill my world with bookcases.
