Back in the swing of things. Bought more feed – this time with no peanuts to get stuck in the feeders. We’re rocking and rolling again. Considering this done!

Been pretty slack about this the last week. Going to do better this week. It’s been cold – even snowed the other day – they need me. Especially need to give them water during the freezes.

Haven’t seen these around the front yard before. Maybe changing my seed mixture has enticed other types of birds to also visit. Maybe word is getting around the neighborhood that there are yummy free fixin’s around :-)

Some day I’ll look up what birds are at the feeder. Common finches, I know, but since I’ve mixed in a big bag of parrot mix, I see that there are other types of birds at the feeder now. I was hoping.
After these 70 degree days, I can’t believe it’s supposed to snow next week. Will have to keep the feeders filled for sure – the birds always stuff themselves before a storm. When I keep the feeders full, seeing a dramatic increase of birds at the feeder is a pretty reliable indicator of cold and snowy weather.

But I added the mixed seeds to the metal garbage can of sunflower seeds and filled up the bird feeders this evening. Also filled up their water. The in-the-shell peanuts are too big for the feeders so I tossed them over the fence – I know, I know, attracting evil chipmunks – the very varmints who are probably eating my crocus flowers.

My daughter helped me fill up the bird feeders a few times while I was on travel. I filled them up Sat, Sun & Monday, so I am good to go for this week. Also gave them fresh water. So everything else is a bonus.
By the way, the birds consistantly empty the feeder to the west before the feeder to the east. I wonder what makes it more attractive?

Filled up the feeders this morning and within 15 minutes, 20 birds had already descended on them. Mostly common finches, but that’s ok. Hearing them make a ruckus is good when the weather is yucky.
Won’t be home later in the week, so have to be very good about this for the next few days if I’m going to get my “3 times a week” in for this week.

I was out early, about sun rise, to fill the bird feeders this morning and put out water – and I could hear the birds waking up in the neighbor’s trees. Such a sweet sound in the very, very quiet morning air. My reward for taking care of this!
