Actually have this on DVD…now it’s just a matter of watching it someday haha. 18 months ago

I’m constantly confronted with the fact that I have not been a witness to many great moments in the world. Berlin wall (I was alive but too young to understand), Watergate, JFK shooting, etc. I feel honored to have been apart of such events as 9-11 and the first African-American President (even though I didn’t vote for him).

But, unlike all those other events I’ve missed, movies are unique in that I can watch them on DVD or Netflix and experience the exact same thing that every other person did when they watched it. Epic movies that are just pure greatness are not lost to me. I don’t have to experience them through others’ experiences.

Gone With The Wind is one of them. Epic movie, epic novel, and I had not yet experienced it. How many times have I heard someone say, “Frankly, my dear, I don’t give a damn” and never seen it for myself? (It’s at the very end of the movie, BTW.) Casablanca was the same way. Epic movie with more lines quoted than ever. If I watch classics for no other reason than to know where these quotes come from, that is reason enough. 21 months ago
