i wish i had done more europe travelling when i was younger but now nearly 50 married with children not much chance now . my advice to the younger generation is do it as you will only regret it when you are older , travel see all you can enjoy life to the full now.
How to drive across europe
How I did it: bought a second hand van for 1300 pounds, taxed it and insured it. cost a lot for that. got travel insurance and a crossing from britain, packed the van with a foam matress, sleepingbags and general camping gear, and a tent just incase. planned a route with the aid of guide books and google maps. Used campsites with internet connection to plan the next legs and a GPS system to aid in the driving.
Lessons & tips: I would go with someone next time.
Make sure you have more than one credit card.
GPS is very useful. except in Romania.
I depended on a computer to help me, but I had to go to campsites with wifi to be able to use it well.
getting money changed before you enter a country is advised.
don't keep all your cash in the same place.
driving costs a lot for the motorways in france and Italy. It might have been an idea to plan more time here and use the back roads.
Motorway vingettes are needed for Czech republic, Hungary, Austria, Romania, Slovenia and Croatia. They can be bought on a border.
roads are bad in czech republic and worst in Romania. I'd miss out Romania if I did it again.
Find some way of combatting mosquitos.
only go to upmarket petrol stations and keep an eye on your fuel!

hi i drove across europe working as a courier, then wrote a book about it, My life as a courier, by Greg Nicoll, i am proud of my book even if im the only one.
especially I want to stop across europe! and Drive on the other side of the road
I want to find the cheapest way to rent or lease a large van to camp in for two months. I want to begin in Napoli and end in Stockholm. I could BUY the van if I had a buy back option, but Kemwel and euro-drive won’t do it with a van. A used van is ideal, and a private party is ok too. Any ideas?
Original plan was (this August) to hire a car, drive from Brussels to St. Petersburg, drop it off and fly back. Unfortunately car hire comanies like you to drop your car off in the same country you picked it up and don’t want you taking it into Russia at all, so I’m not sure what will happen with this plan…
