How I did it: I didn't go looking for the opportunity. The opportunity came to me. When I was a teenager, some producers asked our swim team to pose for a picture and then asked for some extras. I know that since then, I've heard of various announcements when extras are needed, but once was enough for me. I like being a little more active. Mostly I stood around in my swim suit all day while they filmed. I don't remem… Read how I did it…
Smartkookie has located her passport, now time to use it.
How I did it: One of my friends sent me a posting calling for extras for the Dark Knight movie when it was filming in Chicago. She and I both volunteered through a nonprofit which meant our pay would go to the nonprofit. We were cast for an outdoor crowd scene. We got an email letting us know what to wear (dark clothes befitting a cool autumn day), and where and what time to show up (unbelievably early). We spent 12 hours on the set, most of it on… Read how I did it…
How I did it: My brother found out about it on a web site and took me along. I had to fillout some forms (we actually got paid a few bucks). Signed in and then off to get a costume. They tell you what you will be and I actually got lucky and got something better than just sitting in the background. There are many casting companies that hire extras. It just depends on when they come to your city. We shot at several high schools in my area. Read how I did it…
How I did it: Called 1-800-TV-TIXS back in 2001. They told me where to go and what to wear. It was filmed in Orange County, CA. We all wore warm clothing to make it look like Fall. It took 14 hours and I did it for two days. Read how I did it…
How I did it: I actually did one better on this one and actually starred in a student produced film. I went to CSU for about a semester and every year they have auditions for student film projects. I'm guessing that most universities do this also. I went to an audition and got a leading role. I wasn't madly in love with the script but it was a lot of fun.It took a lot of patience to actually work with someone elses schedule. and beware! filming isn't a… Read how I did it…

I think I would get the most out of this experience if I could be an extra in a zombie flick.. as a zombie, of course!
I would, however, settle for just being an extra in any old movie.

...so I sent in pictues and what not, not expecting to hear back. Got the phone call the very next day!
I saw some celebrities up close and talked with various people involved in the industry. It was cool seeing some of ‘the behind the scenes’ process.
I was involved from like 6a-1130p, so it was a very long day but it was a very interesting experience – and I got paid so that made the day all the more better (hopefully I’ll be able to actually see myself in the film, but hey :).

The ad said i would get paid 50 dollars .
however, the day i went they were giving away “door prizes”
it was 30 degrees outside and an outside scene , lots of yelling and retakes and retakes .
really .
not not worth it .
at all .
This was a very interesting experience. My brother talked me into this several years ago when I was out of work. We got paid a few bucks an hour and the food was great. My brother had signed up on a web site, but brought me along. We signed in, got into costume (I was a Highway Patrol officer) and then went to a high school football field to stand around all night. As someone else mentioned, we did the same thing over and over. I basically paced back and forth along the sidelines. My brother was a reporter in the booth and actually has about 4 seconds of full face recognizable screen time. I think I saw the top of my head, but there were two of us in the Trooper costume, so I’m not really sure. Many other extras were sitting in the stands. It was exciting to be part of the making of a major motion picture and watching how everything worked from behind the director was very cool.
