Grow a Secret Garden

I have a secret to share with you. I’m renting some earth that I can make into my own. I’m going to make a garden. What to do and where to start to make this mighty place grow, I do not yet know. But follow me and be with me and let us watch this world unfold.

I will, this summer, figure out how to put my motto on this garden ball. Either I chisel it, engrave a plaque, or paint on it. (Somehow, paint doesn’t seem right.)

I have some sprouty ginger-root…I am going to tuck some pieces into the corners of the Secret Garden and see if they grow.

but I need to think up some shady little spready plants that don’t mind being trodden on.

I have an idea.
In among the euonymus plantings, I will put for the next spring’s blooming, an assortment of small white and pink woodland bulbs: tiny tulipa, white narcissi, convallaria.

Two more plants are ready to go in the Secret Garden. The shrubs are all on deep discount at the garden center.

Last year, the stone wall for the Secret Garden was built on the hottest day of the summer. This July, two variegated euonymus were planted, and last week the branches for the Sanctum Sanctorum erected. Progress!
