you know this old fashion thing :p
How to go rollerskating
How I did it: I bought some rollerskates for Hannah at a thrift store and she was so excited to try them out. She's still learning to skate, but she's determined and trying her best! I put on my skates and we went up and down the driveway together. It was fun, I hope I'll get a chance to get to take her to Oaks park rink sometime soon.
Lessons & tips: If you're just learning to skate, be sure to wear wrist guards! Hannah's are already quite scuffed up, but her wrists are in mint condition.
Resources: thrift store finds:
kid's rollerskates: $6.99
set of wrist, elbow, and knee pads: $2.99
driveway: free

I took the family roller-skating today! My brothers picked it up quickly! It was their first time ever going to a rink. I think we had fun and I think I can say I’ve finally gotten the hang of it. Now, I just need to fall less.
I swear we saw Bon Jovi. He must have been a teen in the 70s because he had some moves! He was dancing and doing spins and skating backwards with his muscular legs and red-sleeved baseball tee.

So finally I went rollerskating. I had been begging friends to go with me for months and no one seemed overly interested. Finally Ryan (the greatest bf ever) and friend Gabrielle laced up their skates, renewed their medical insurance and braved the slippery hard wood floor of newly re-opened Youngstown Skate! It didn’t take too long before I felt like I was flying again. I know I look funny skating, my butt sticks out and I look SO awkward as I round the corner trying not to topple over… but I don’t care, it is still the FUNNEST thing to do EVER!
When I was a kid, I used to skate all the time. I am talking all weekend long at the rink and then in my friend’s huge basement all week long. I loved it! I still have my skates that fit me when I was 12 but, sadly, they are too small. I am going to get new boots, though, because they are fabulous and are in pretty good condition. My idea of a great night would be to get a bunch of friends together and rent out the rink in town. We could play all the classics from our childhood and try not to dislocate a hip while zooming around the rink. I just want to hear “Heart of Glass” and skate backward. This must be done before I go back to work at the end of August.
