Reading, and consequently understanding, Knuth has been a goal of mine for some time know. Considering that I’m still working my way through the Wizard Book I’ve got a ways to go before diving into Knuth.
This is a bit like climbing Everest. I’ll wager that the number of people who really understand Knuth is 1. Well, and maybe his wife, but she just understands him, not his books.

My main hassle is getting my head round the algorithmic notation used in these kinds of books – what’s wrong with using fairly standard pseudocode conventions like = for assignment, for example?
