The regular webmaster for the local pro hockey team is on vacation, so I am doing game recaps and posting them (with one of my photos for each separate entry) to the official team site. It’s not quite as official as working in the front office, but this fits in the spirit of this goal.
I won’t mark this as done until the end of my stint (later this week). 7 years ago
Doing it now, if you count writing web content for a pro hockey team, which I do. 7 years ago
I worked for the Baton Rouge Kingfish in their first season – Ok, so its a farm team and I was an intern, but it was SO much fun. One of the perks was getting to see all the games and getting to know all the players and staff.
Plus who would have thought that pro-hockey would take off in the South? But then, Louisianians are SERIOUS about their sports. They know how to play hard. And then they found out that it wasn’t for Baton Rouge after all…I jumped at a once in a lifetime opportunity and I am so glad I did it.
I would totally do this again if I got the opportunity! 7 years ago
The team had me come out to do the ceremonial puck drop before yesterday’s game to officially welcome me back. Afterwards, the next question was, “When will you start taking photos for us again?” When I told them the next home game, they were quite pleased. I think it will take me a few games to get my rhythm back, but I am ready. 8 years ago
I plan to resume at least partial duties as team photographer, and I’ve been asked to help with the official web site. So I think that should definitely count. Just need to get home and start doing it! 8 years ago
Almost eight years ago, I joined the staff of a small magazine that covered minor pro hockey. I was strictly a writer at first, but eventually became a photographer as well, which led to being hired as the team’s photographer. That team folded and one in another league replaced it, and I was the that team’s photographer until my deployment last fall. I hope to rejoin the team as photographer when I return.
I would like to do more PR-type work, but it is a hard field to break into and entry-level pay is usually low. But I think it would (or could) be a blast. 8 years ago
