Buy A Condo/House

I’m going to move back into the condo that I partially own with my parents in Austin. I guess that’s good enough for now. Gots to kick the little bro out, though.

If Archer and I move out to Cali I dont think, even if we could scrap and save enough for a down payment, that it even makes sense to buy out there anymore. You can no longer get a house to pay for itself out there via renting it out. So as far using the house as an investment vehicle, there are basically better places to put all the money you would spend on a dwn pmt., renter’s insurance, property taxes, bla bla bla. Of course if we live somewhere less hectic, that changes everything.

It’s a wise investment to get a house, but there is so much more to it than I thought there would be. I knew that I would be responsible for when things broke, but the reality didn’t hit me until a leak in my bathroom cost me $5,000 and then my air conditioner went out and cost me $4,000. I’ve learned things about home owners insurance and HOAs that were hard lessons. In spite of all the trouble though, my house is now worth $70,000 more than what I paid for it and that’s after only 2 years. If I wanted to just say, “to hell with it all,” I’d still be walking out of the deal with an easy $50,000 after all’s said and done. I had to live somewhere and at least this way my money is going towards something that benefits me instead of to a landlord and having nothing to show for it.
