Yes, this took entirely too long, but it looks soooo much better. yay!
How I did it: we took off everyboard, flipped it, sanded it, painted it, it wore off, primed it painted again, put it back on, replaced some railings, and the spacers, stripped them and restarted. in the end it looked nicer a year later it needs it again.
Lessons & tips: painted decks are a pain and the paint wears off, if you have the money either make a patio or start with new wood and have a stained wood deck that you upkeep with another layer of watersealant every year.

silly weather. last weekend was 45, this weekend was 85, which felt blazing hot by comparisson, still, we got nearly the whole deck done. the only thing that needs finishing up is the hand rail, with a little luck we’ll get it done during the week, now that it is still light when we get home.

with a beatiful week behind us, and a beautiful week ahead… this weekend was too cold to paint until sunday, so, needless to say, I didn’t get this done this weekend, but next weekend!

1 board needs screwed down, primed, and top coated. Then the decking is totally done leaving just the rails and stairs
The rail along the longest side is done.
The main rails on the middle side are up and second primed. They still need a top coat, and then I can start putting up cross rails.
The main rails for the shortest side are first primed but still need to be put up.
The stairs have been pulled up and are ready for sanding and painting.
With good weather I think I can get this done next weekend.
Finally! (remind me not to start out door projects at the start of winter. ;-p

5 boards in place, needs primer and topcoat
1 board needs cut, 1st primed, screwed down, second primed, and top coated.
that would finish the decking, and just leave the steps and rails to be completed.
The rail along the longest side is all nailed up. need to use primer to touch up nicks from the hammer, and top coat over that.

and in the mean time, this feels like progress
1 board in place, needs primer and topcoat
1 board in place, snapped bit on 5th hole, so still needs screwed down, primer and top coat
3 boards need to be screwed down, second primed, and top coated
1 board needs cut, 1st primed, screwed down, second primed, and top coated.
that would finish the decking, and just leave the steps and rails to be completed.
I also repaired the cord for the saw which DH cut through, so that other board can be cut.

so, yesterday let me get some more work done. I top coated the 3 boards that had been screwed down and primed, finally. my husband screwed down 2 more boards, and I put the second coat of primer on them, but didn’t have time to top coat. I also put the first primer coat on 2 other boards. so the deck is like this:
2 boards in place, just need top coat.
5 boards need to be screwed down, second primed, and top coated
1 board needs cut, 1st primed, screwed down, second primed, and top coated.
that would finishe the decking, and just leave the steps and rails to be completed.

well, I’d love to work on this, but it was nice to get some actual snow here for a change.

the cold temps have kept me from painting. what’s with this cold weather in January? : ) so I’m waiting for the next warm weekend to really put some more work into this.

the rain never came fri/sat/sun, so I got a lot done. all the decking is not sanded, the plank that had to be special cut is, and is primed and screwed down. I didn’t get the topcoat on before the rain finally came on monday, so I hope it’s ok to topcoat fri or sat…
