So I figured out how to get the cranks off, but I was only successful with one side. The pin on the other side was bent, so I couldn’t get it out. I’m not sure whether I should keep going on this bike or try to find another one.

singlespeed 4 weeks ago

I was just looking at many fixies and singlespeeds in NY city. also saw a custom frame builder with some amazing works. I am a full on carbon road cyclist but am itching to build a singlespeed with a flipflop

Problems 4 weeks ago

I’m taking the bike apart to learn more about bikes and to clean it all out. I’ve run into a couple hitches. The handlebars are pretty well stuck in the pipe. I’m going to try some WD-40 today and see if that helps at all. The cranks are also giving me problems. I don’t see any way to really take them off. I think my bike is either really really old or just incredibly cheap.

I found an old road bike at a garage sale yesterday for 3 bucks. The frame is just right for me. I also found a website that takes you step by step through the process. I’m really looking forward to learning more about my bike and creating this new bike.

Victoria I needs 2 categories: 1 for real projects and a 2nd for more esoteric

actually my son did this 3 months ago

My 15y.o. son did this, he mtb and bmx s; but decided to make his regualr mtb a fixed gear; he loves it I am not sure why. We all did a 15km mtb race recentlya nd he beat his mates on the fixed gear bike over their 24 gear bikes. he has legs like pistons I guess.

I finally found a good frame (for free), stripped it down, and added all the necessary components. Check it out bigger:

I love it.

needs adjustment, but it's done 14 months ago

I finished up the green fixed gear on Wednesday. Finished meaning that I put a junk saddle and pedals on it, for the time being, just so I could take it for a spin. This bike is so much fun! Even though the fit is bad because of the saddle and stem, it’s like learning the joy of cycling all over again. I’ll put a front brake and some bar tape on the bike and continue riding it until I can find a longer stem and better saddle. I’m in love with this bike, and can’t wait to build another!
