    The Mummy 3 years ago

This movie eludes such classic style and culture in which I adore. The movie begins in 1920’s Egypt where they follow Archeological clues along their adventure.

I have always had deep interest and loved the thrill of Archeology. It would be such a dream to be a part of a dig at the tombs beneath Hamunaptra, as they did. I also enjoyed the scenes of the library filled with rich leather-bound books and lavish artifacts.

This sort of thriller is everything that I enjoy in a movie – action, fright, culture and love. Brandon Freser isn’t bad to look at either :)

    I own both DVD’s

You've Got Mail 3 years ago

There’s something to be said about a good letter. The thrill of knowing somebody took the time to think about me. The anticipation of what they had to say… although I would prefer the old fashioned version, a good e-mail from somebody that I enjoy is just as thrilling.

I guess that is what is so intriguing to me about this beautiful story. A woman who confides to a complete stranger the tribulations of her life, but who can brighten her day with a cheerful outlook on the world.

I enjoyed the little touches that make this film a classic. From the little bookstore to the hustle and bustle of the streets of New York, I am intrigued right down to the cheerful apartment in which Kathleen Kelly lives. I can even relate to so many facets of her life – even the boquets of sharpened pencils.

When I am feeling down, popping in this movie instantly cheers me up. It is a classic – one of my favorites in which I can watch again and again.

I have the VHS version of this movie – I need to purchase the DVD

    The Notebook 3 years ago

“The Greatest Love Story Ever Told” was what I had written on a label placed over a video I recorded for my Dad. “The Notebook” was a story composed of a love so pure and strong, it outlasted the depths of a frightening disease. And although this disease has not touched our family, the story brings forth memories of a love my parents once had… before my mom was sick, and during a time when life was pure.

I shared the book with my dad after I first read the story many years ago and when he was finished, he handed it back to me with a tear in his eye and simply said, “I know”…

The year after my mother passed away, my then boyfriend proposed. Because it had been such a trying time, planning a wedding was the last thing I wanted to get wrapped up in. So, my husband came up with the idea to get married on the beach in Hawaii. Soaring through the cloud-filled skies, I imagined my mother flying along side to be with me on my special day. Wearing a ring of hers, (my “something old”) I would caress it whenever I thought about missing so.

A friend of mine had given me “The Notebook” to read while on my honeymoon. I read it in one day – laying on the beach with the sound of the ocean. That book made me somehow feel her spirit, and the memory will always live on through this movie.

I believe that the producers of this movie did a phenomenal job. For movies following books are rarely so. It truly captured a love story so unique and completely divine.

My husband finally bought me this DVD! When I saw it in the theatre, I cried like a baby. I cried in the parking lot and on the way home. If I need a good cry, this is what I turn to!

50 First Dates 3 years ago

This movie means a lot to both my husband and I. I can see an entire new meaning to living your life day by day within this comedic love story.

Like in the movie, my husband used to live on a sailboat and I came into his life at a time when he was ready to set sail. We had many adventures in the wide open sea, and this movie reminds me of our young love.

This sound track means more to me than words can say. The first song on the CD, Hold Me Now, is our theme song towards our goals. When we got back from our umteenth trip through Costa Rica, we decided to have a huge garage sale, give away most of our large belongings, put our house up for sale and go for it…

We brought the CD with us on our trip and played it while driving on the dirt roads, through rivers and across bridges without railings. Now whenever we hear the music, it reminds us of that beautiful, adventurous dream that we once lived.

This version of the song, by Wayne Wonder has a tropical flare to it:

I have a picture, pinned to my wall.
An image of you and of me and we’re laughing and loving it all.
Look at our life now, tattered and torn.
We fuss and we fight and
delight in the tears that we cry until dawn

Hold me now, warm my heart
    stay with me, let loving
    start (let loving start)

You say I’m a dreamer, we’re two of a kind
Both of us searching for some perfrct world we know we’ll
    never find
So perhaps I should leave here, yeah yeah go far away
But you know that theres no where that I’d rather be than with you here today

    Chorus

You ask if I love you, well what can I say?
You know that I do and if this is just one of those games that we play
So I’ll sing you a new song, please don’t cry anymore
and then I’ll ask your forgiveness, though I don’t know just what I’m asking it for

    Chorus

I have a recording of this movie as well – I need to buy it on DVD

Under The Tuscan Sun 3 years ago

There is something to be said about a woman who can leave the pain of life behind to partake upon a new adventure. To feel alone in a huge place with the only belongings being a few suitcases and a bank account back home, yet having the simplistic freedom to start a new. Seeing the potential in a rustic villa in Tuscany – an adreneline rush toward true independance.

I will never forget watching this movie for the first time, and bawling my eyes out. How I longed for such an opportunity. To be a stranger in a foreign land and have fate guide me toward fulfilling my dreams. To write books, submerge myself in a new culture, learn a new language, adopt a new family… how I yearned.

This movie was the beginning of our search for that adventure in life. Catapulting into the truth of discovering who we are, where we want to be and who we want to become.

From that day on, I have lived with the hope that one day, we will fulfill our dreams of living abroad.

I recorded this movie from Satellite TV, but with so many nice items that have been created in production with this movie, like calendars, notebooks, etc. I have always thought this would be a great gift – like a nice gift basket: DVD, Book and Calendar… why don’t my friends think of these things?

    That's Entertainment 3 years ago

As we ponder our decision to relocate, we’ve made it a mission to collect all of the classic movies that have made an impact on our lives. Entertainment is a huge part of living in the tropics. There is a lot of downtime when hurricane season begins and the surfing stops, so you have to rely on movies and good music to boost your morale.

I’ll never forget the first time we had drinks at our favorite hang-out in Costa Rica. It was a Friday night and many of the locals began to pour in for their end of the week ritual… to watch Saturday Night Live. Yes – TV in CR isn’t very current. I think it broadcasts a week late… so there we were watching SNL reruns with the locals and they absolutely ate it up! Everything was magnified for them – ten times funnier than you or I would see it. That was their big event in which they looked forward to all week.

So, we began collecting certain movies that we were sure we couldn’t live without. Some are still on my want list, but this will be a good way for me to keep it all together.

Aside from movies, there are also the box sets that my friends have been gifting me, like Friends, Seinfeld and Sex & the City, in which I could never go without watching these shows for a long period of time.
