Will be going to Blue Mesa Grill this Friday. Cathy has a petting zoo to do earlier on Friday, and then we’ve got our date! I’m probably looking forward to this as much as she is.

Seems kinda weird to say that when you’re married, right? But most of the time we’re either working, doing errands & chores, sleeping, or being quite quiescent.

Years ago, when I was in grad school, I asked a professor of Marriage and Family Therapy what was the secret to a good spousal relationship.

He answered: “you should always court your mate.” I felt that I immediately understood what he meant, though I would not even meet the person who would become my wife for another five years.

Since then, we have both made it a point to care for each other, and we have a strong marriage. I can sense, though, that we might be backing off a little bit. I am wary of complacency, and I wish to return to the process of ‘courting my mate’ with a fervor.

My goal, then, is to craft a series of dates through the end of this year, perhaps 12 dates, that are special for both of us.

If I can so craft these dates, and if we can both prosper, learn, and grow from them, then I will feel that I have (again) accomplished this goal.
