I saw this idea for keeping a journal of things you are grateful for in a Reader’s Digest, and decided to try it. The article suggested writing down 3 things every day that you were grateful for. I think the purpose is to take a step back from all the things that have happened during the day, and reflect on what you are grateful for. I am doing this to help myself recognize how much I actually have, as sometimes I forget that I have many abilities, opportunities, and people around me that increase my enjoyment in life.
How to be more grateful for what I have.
How I did it: 1) Open your eyes.
2) Look around you.
3) Make a list of everything you love.
4) Realize that there are worse things in life than whatever problem you have.
5) Remember you are not alone.
It was hard not to go back into the self-pity state. I just forced myself to think of everything I loved and what all I was grateful for. Slowly it turned into a habit. I just looked at everything around me and noted whatever I was thankful for.
Lessons & tips: You may need to force yourself to be positive even if you don't feel like it. Slowly you will make it a habit and then you will begin to feel better. Don't give up.

Every single day when you wake up, find something to be grateful for, even if it’s the fact that you woke up!
i am really very lucky – i have a wonderful husband that is the best person i’ve ever met, i have a job that i don’t hate, i now live in a city i like, i’m healthy, i can pay my bills and sometimes buy stuff i don’t need, i have a college education, i’ve travelled a bit, i don’t hate my family, i love my cats. i just have to be grateful for these things everyday.
