Marc Ambit is very proud of having been able to travel to Japan
I want to enjoy the whole experience:
- find an interesting and captivating play
- analyze it, understand it fully
- build the whole project:
find a theater
find the actors/actresses
find financing
etc.
- direct the play
- premiere it!
And most of all, I want to struggle with all the problems, fight against all adversities, and fullfill the amazing experience to suffer the dificulties of making art in my own body.

The Reading!

Well, how to start? It went badly… and well. I got quite a shock at how the beginning disappeared – I got the feeling that nobody heard it. The play’s fault or circumstance? There was irritating repetition and looseness of character and plot. Afterwards people were reluctant to discuss it. All bad. On the up the side, the purpose of the reading was to discover such things and now I can launch into the 3rd draft with solid views on what needs changing. Onwards and upwards.

Well, I still haven’t directed a play but I have written one, which is even better. I just finished it about 2 weeks ago and am having some friends read it this weekend. Very exciting… and scary. It’s called “Yesterday”, which is actually a pretty crap title but it’ll do for now. I really hope I turn out to be a genius at this.

This is one of the things I would have done in an alternate life – become a theater director. I’d like to do it sometime for a community theater or something.

One of the hardest things I’ve ever done, and one of the most rewarding, too. I’m about to leave the drama teacher position (in June of this year), and when it goes well, it’s intense creative fun, like surfing a turbulent wave, or something equally natural, chaotic, and violent.
When it doesn’t go well, it’s as effective and frustrating as trying to herd 40 cats somewhere they don’t want to go.
That said, if you get a chance to, GO FOR IT! but plan lots and lots ahead, get as much help as you can for as many parts of it, and know you are going to make sacrifices – of your vision, of your time, energy, and motivation.
Break a leg.

But I don’t know if I’m going to have the time to do it. I know exactly which one I’d like to do.

I have always wanted to direct that play. I must go and see it. I know a guy who runs a theatre company that puts on a lot of shakespeare. Must call him. Must also read the play again… its been a while.

I am a theater director for a living – so I should hope that I think it is worth it!
Don’t plan on much sleep for 6-8 weeks.

I love theatre and believe I have a hidden talent for directing. There’s nothing like live theatre! I successfully done light and sound directing and stage management many times. My largest production was a musical with a 26 member cast. I loved it. I just want to see how I do. I’d like to test myself with a little theatre production of maybe two acts and a 3-5 person cast.
