K~ carpe diem
My kids are supposed to bring one of Dad’s old socks to kindergarten next week; they’re going to be filled with sweets from Nikolaus (6.12.).
Since most these socks seem to have huge holes (and the more I throw away, the more socks with holes appear, it seems), I had to come up with something different and more colourful.
I was a lot of fun to make, even though it could have been done a lot faster (smarter, but well, I’m still learning these things).
I hope my children will like them.

I love being arty and crafty and making things for people. Nothing makes me happier and I can get lost in craft for hours and hours. I just don’t have the time! But I will make time. I’ve started making pompoms for christmas, and every christmas present I give this year will be hand made!
I just have to realise that when I’m doing nothing, I could use that time to craft. When I’m watching boring TV that I’m not even interested in, I could be crafting. I just have to use my time wisely.
I also really need to set up a craft bench so that it is easy to just craft for 5 minutes in between this and that and not spend 15 minutes looking for everything I need.
I WILL CRAFT MORE!

Maybe I just began doing this. Crafting more, I mean. Yesterday I made a beautiful hook rack to put by the door for raincoats and dogleashes and other stuff that is currently making a mess by the door.
I made the rack from a small board from an old pallet and an old shovel handle. Both had been lying around outside for ages and turned a lovely silvery grey colour. The handle got cut up into six pieces straight across at one end, and with a 45 degrees angle at the other. The angled part got glued and screwed onto the piece of wood. Then I went over it with fine sanding paper – maybe I’ll wax it, maybe not. I really like the grey colour. The whole thing looks old and used.

K~ carpe diem
It was so much fun these last few days to surf the web for more and more inspiration. There is sooo much to see and most things are so simple but turn out really nicely in the end.
Most of the things were even fun to do with my children. We made those fingerprint-bunnies and my kids had sooo much fun with their blue and red fingers. ;-) (the red bunnies weren’t thaaat much of a success, but worth a try)
Andrea also loves to colour with her watercolours. Most of the time these painings just shop up in some drawer or waste-paper basket, which really is a pity. I showed her how to cut out a simple shape, stick it onto a nice peace of paper and tadaaah: it looks nice!
One more thing my kids and some neighbours’ children liked doing a lot were doing little paper-cuts with some adhesive tape. Making a collage with little stripes of various paper-cuts in all kinds of colours was veru nice to do (these still have to be finished, though).
But there are still sooo many more nice things to be tried. =)

fruitbat is trying to do things on her own.
Right now I am working on a very special Dr. Who scarf for a very special guy. This thing will be huge, and I have no idea when it will be done. I think it’s too much to hope for to have it done by our anniversary, but eventually… In the mean time he’s encouraging me to get back into papercrafting and wants me to make him cool stuff. Nice to have a good motivator.

I can draw!
It’s a wow because all my life I was sure I can’t even draw a circle right. And now I’ve discovered that I can draw all right, and it’s FUN!
I have always envied a little those who had this drawing talent, and I was sorry I didn’t have it. So guess what – I have.
I think that everyone has it somewhere, you just have to dump those old stereotypes that tell you that you can’t.
So drawing is a kind of craft : )

I’m working on crafts every day these days, and I see this continuing for a VERY long time at this moment. So I consider this as done!!!

I have unearthed all the aforementioned half completed porcelain dolls and was stunned – there were dolls I don’t even remember making!I also dragged out my fabric stash and patterns, and am good to go. Also joined a knitting for charity group to use up my yarn stash!

i definitely need to improve my knitting and embroider/papier-mache/etc more. i want to make t shirts. i want to plush. i need to do art in general, and i think a lot of crafting is under appreciated as a medium for the visual arts. i look at stuff like bjork wore for a lot of her volta photoshoots and it’s absolutely inspiring
