do more with my kids

We spend a fair amount of time together, but I can always try to do more!

not that we don’t do stuff anyway but it’s basically the same stuff like going to the park and such
I’m making Saturday family day so me and DH and the kids do something special.
This is one I started last year but stopped over Xmas, so starting again

from library trips to karaoke ive been sooo active lately with my munchkins…getting to know them has been so WONDERFUL! lub my babies!

i’ve been doing lots with my kids lately. making jewelry, drawing pictures, playing board games, just hanging out and reading. sometimes, the little buggers drive me insane, but they also calm me down too. love the little farts!

funny, so my little girl wanted to do the pottery thing for some time. i guess the box attracted her. but when it became a muddy slimy mess, she wasn’t interested anymore. “too muddy, mama,” she said! so there i was with my elbows covered in clay, and she ran away! oh well, i made a cute little flower that she can paint.

over a year ago, i bought this stupid pottery wheel kit from michael’s on a whim. i think i had one of those 50% off coupons and used it to buy that. anyway, it’s been sitting in my closet. last week, my three-year-old daughter found it and dragged it out and stared at the box. i told her it was pottery. she wanted to open it up and try it out, but i did’t have time. and i haven’t had the time since, though she looks at it constantly and says, “pottery, mama?” i will open it and do it with her this week. she’s so eager and curious, it breaks my heart.

my kids like to draw and color and other things, like my daughter does in preschool. and they like to play board games (even if they can’t quite grasp the concept yet) and do puzzles. but i’m really crappy at spending time with them. i’m always in a rush to finish my own stuff and just let them off in their rooms to play. this needs to change.

This goal is completed. It was worth it. While these activities are done, the goal is ongoing.

Kinda hard when one is a tweener and one is a 16 1/2. Looking for those teachable moments, they recognize the moment and tune me out. Hmmmmm now I must resort to cunning, stealth, foresight, planning and surprise.

I’ve spent too much time saying we’d do things (like promising my son we’d build a treehouse)... not enough time actually DOING them. I want to fix that this year.
