picking up rocks in a couple different places.
It’s a weird thing…but it seems like the right thing to do. Picked up a couple at the first spot I stopped to take some pix with my new very cool DSLR.
Some how it helped me symbolise and connect with my dad. He’s the one that taught me to photograph in the first place and the one that I did the “rock hunting” with.
Feels right.

been messing with my new tablet trying to draw rocks. Dang, it’s hard. I’m awkward with the pen but it’s still fun.
Tonight i thought about how when i was a kid, if i’d been doing that and my mom or dad asked me what i was doing i would have said “practicing drawing” but now as an adult if someone had asked me what i was doing i’d say “trying to draw”.
trying is so different than practicing something. wonder when it stopped being practice for me and starting being an effort.

so tonight I drew some rocks….weird goal this.
I used my new wacom tablet and drew some rocks in a glass jar. Pretty awful really LOL! but, i’m just learning how to use the tool. I’ll get better.
I know what I want to paint, just have to figure out how to draw it first. Probably should just go out in the yard, collect some rocks and put them in a jar with water.
That would be far, far, far too easy. ;-)
I did drive by a landscaping place today that had a bunch of rocks piled up, checked those out so I’d know what rocks look like. Isn’t it weird that we see but don’t really see…

today to get some mats cut. They had an “artist’s set” boxed up with watercolors, oil paints, pencils, brushes etc. It was like Christmas in a box. For $24.99!!!
I put my hands on the box, looked at all the goodies inside, thought, “oh man, this is COOOOOOL!!” and then walked off.
What the heck??? Why didn’t I just buy the dang thing?? Am I really that cheap?
Or just that scared…..

but do a painting of rocks.
Think it’s part of doing grief work around my dad’s death years ago.
My dad and I were close, we had alot in common. Including looking for rocks. We would go for long walks along the river bank just to see if we could find some interesting rocks. Rock hunting we called it. Funny to think of it now….he probably didn’t even like rocks, just went out with me so I wouldn’t be walking around by myself. He used it as his exercise time I guess…too funny.
Anyway, I LOVED rocks when I was a kid. I would collect them, put them in glass jars and old metal coffee cans then wash them over and over using the hose water.
Had hundreds of “special rocks” which are now out in my folks back driveway…
Have a friend that collects rocks for a rock garden so I started thinking about this idea again. Have rocks from a couple different countries now.
May just have an artist date to go “rock hunting” again….maybe I’ll just do that.
I want to put rocks in a jar and make a painting of it and I don’t know how to paint….
I’ll learn.
