hey everyone. i just ended 8th grade and i really want to be a cheerleader. I just started cheer camp 2 days ago and i never cheered before. I am 13.. a little under 70 pounds and about 4’9 so i am really tiny. I am a flyer at my camp. we are only doing basic stuff like halfs.. fulls.. sponges.. and cradeling. i try to stay tight but i dont really feel to safe with my bases and my back but my coach says i need to get used to flying with all different people. Does anyone have any tips on how to be a nice tight really good flyer?

Some basics to know:
1) All the attention will be on the flyer[s]
2) Stretch, stretch, stretch, and stretch
(leaning forward and backward in splits = good)
3) Tiniest doesn’t guarantee you a spot,
you should also be able to do a heel stretch, scorpion, etc.
4) Squeeze and tighten ‘till it hurts
5) Hold your own weight
6) Trust your bases/spots, they save your life everyday (:
7) Always smile XD
8) If you fall (and you’re okay) – don’t freak out –
just get back up and get it right
Being a flyer is amazing!
I joined for the first year as a sophomore and naturally being 4”11 and 90lbs, I was a candidate for flying c:
Except I had never danced/stretched/tumbled/cheered in my LIFE.
Our coach tested our flexibility and I could not even hold my leg parallel to my hip without bending at the knee.
My scorpion was nonexistant as well ):
So basically he told me I couldn’t fly unless I was stretched all thorugh summer for the next year, which I did and voila!
It paid off.

Being a flyer obviously puts alot of pressure on us to lose weight, it really sucks, especially finding out youve gained like 10 pounds. Oh well though, I’ll lose it. My squad is amazing, Its my junior year, I have been flying since my freshman year, and I am FINALLY the Main flyer its amazing! :D I love the attention!!!

I have a confession and I feel really badly about it! I got weighed today for cheerleading at the doctor and i weighed 115 lbs but i changed it to 105 and I feel extremely guilty! Now I have to lose the weight so I don’t feel as guilty anymore!
