2011 London marathon was my first ever marathon , the furthest I had ever run was 10 miles competing in army.
I didn’t start serious training until 15 weeks before. I started off running 3 miles for the first week , second week ran 8 miles 1 day a week. I only every did 1-2 long runs a week and ran 3 miles on lunch break and occasionally interval running in evening with a mixture of weight training , boxing training and spinning classes throughout the week.
Every Wednesday I increased my miles.
I only ran up to 18 miles before the marathon and felt I ran at ease all the way through due to keeping a comfortable pace. I completed the marathon in 3hrs 57 minutes.
I think mastering a comfortable pace is what made me run at ease. 18 months ago
I have trained for and run 2 marathons. Took 4:18 and 4:15. For the second one, I thought I’d be able for 4 hours. Ran it at 4 hour pace but couldn’t keep it up after 16 miles and struggled home from there. Only the secondary goal of beating my previous time kept me going.
I have had 4 weeks since and am now focussing on a new plan and having another go at the 4 hour goal in May or June 2012. 18 months ago
