I don’t really do it anymore, but I was in band all throughout school…I was in the percussion section, but, being the only girl in the section for pretty much my entire band career, I was quickly shuffled off to play keyboard instruments (glockenspiel, xylophone. vibes, marimba, etc…), which always sort of angered me…yet, I learned so much about how to play music properly…

I play music every day. And I only learned a year ago that I could! I’m a member of a highschool, and community band, as well, I am working on my own pajamapop side project. Wish me luck!

I’ve always loved music passionately.. but never considered myself able to play anything. My stepfather had a guitar in his closet that I claimed when I was about 11, along with a instructional book I dug out of our attic. I tried playing for several days one summer, but since neither I nor anyone in my house knew how to actually tune a guitar, I gave it up pretty quickly. In highschool I had a few friends who played guitar, one played keyboard, lots of people jammed on bongos during parties (but, you know.. c’mon. Bongos.), but I never really thought to try playing anything myself. Now I’m dating someone who has this completely amazing, seemingly innate ability to pick up any instrument and master it within an hour. Our basement is literally a recording studio. I can take my pick of anything, yet I don’t. I feel very very shy about asking Broughton to teach me to play. Perhaps because he’s such a stellar musician? I feel like there’s something I don’t get about playing music. I have rhythm. I can sing. I know how to match notes and such, I just feel very blank when looking at a sheet of music, or even guitar note instructions. Should I try drums? We’ve got drums.. Bass? Hmm. Tina Weymouth learned bass so she could play in a band with her boyfriend, and look how kickass that all turned out..
