Given all the stuff going on with Prop 8 coming up more on the news again with the recent case…
there’s going to be more protests coming up and ralleys. This time I will be doing everything that I can to attend since I couldn’t due to time restraints/transportation issues during the initial votes.

How I did it: I got involved with the organization Invisible Children and signed up to go to the Rescue. The website had all of the details about the when and where and it was really well organized. We marched from the ellipse to the capital building in groups tied with ropes to symbolize the children being abducted, and then we spent the night in front of the capital building waiting for media and moguls to rescue us. How I did it: One of my friends had mad love for Sarah Palin, so when we heard she was going to be in the next town over, we were ecstatic! The only problem was that neither of us wanted to call the Republican Headquarters to get the tickets. So we almost didn't go.
Last minute though, I managed to find someone giving away their Sarah Palin tickets! I called my friend, hopped in the car, and off we went! We got there just before it started, realized the stadium was full, but the line was still moving - they were shuffling people onto the outfield! We were still going to get in!
We had to stand the entire time, and we couldn't see or hear anything happening on stage very well, but for me, it was still an amazing experience. I was standing in the outfield of Bowman Field, with Sarah Palin a couple hundred yards away. Read how I did it… 3 years ago

The enthusiasm of the crowd is definitely contagious! I took the kids with me and I think they enjoyed it much more than they expected. 3 years ago

...I met some nice people. But I’m just not that political. At least not enough to really get into it in this manner. 5 years ago

I went to a rally for John Kerry but it was so cool (I got free stuff) but besides that it is a rush of excitement. 6 years ago

It always makes me feel better to connect with other people and see the force that can be demonstrated in the unity of thought.
Although, it’s pretty funny that there are always a lot of people that try to sandwich in loads of unrelated causes to the main even of any rally.
As an added bonus, try to attend a rally a foreign country. The picture attached is from a rally I joined in Buenos Aires last summer. 6 years ago

I have participated in several political rallies, as well as a blockade. The feeling of comadarie is great…people really look out for each other at rallies. Plus, there is a certain intoxicating freedom in proudly standing up for your opinions. 6 years ago

Kerry came to my university’s campus last year, and I was one of the volunteers (mostly because I didn’t get a ticket to the rally). I got to see Kerry and Dean and hear them speak, my mom saw me on CNN, I missed a couple classes…all in all a good time. 6 years ago
