I have $25 in a savings account labeled Vacation. Not much to start, but at least it’s something. I have tentative plans to go on a cruise in summer 2010 with this guy I’m involved with. Of course, whether I go with him depends on the status of our relationship next year. But I’ll go on a cruise regardless, even if it’s alone. I think that would actually be a solo vacation I could tolerate because I’d feel safe. Although I have a couple of cousins who also want to go on a cruise in the next year or two, so maybe I’ll go with them. The company isn’t important at this juncture. I’m just glad to have started saving.

How I did it: My boyfriend and I found a great deal on Norwegian Cruise Lines for an 11-day Mexican Riviera cruise that left from a port near our home, so we decided to go for it. I stocked up on prescription patches for motion sickness, and packed for different climates and activities (from cool nights on the ship to hot days in Mexico; from swimming to hiking). We decided on doing some wandering around most of the ports on our own, and ch… Read how I did it…
How I did it: Called a travel agent, told her my desired itinerary, she made it happen. Easy peasy. The goal of a cruise ship is to basically trap you on a boat, shovel free food in your mouth, and trick you into paying for everything else. Alcohol costs money, soda costs money, laundry costs money, entertainment costs money, tips cost money, activities cost money, and so on. I don't drink much, but the soda thing annoyed me (I pai… Read how I did it…

How I did it: I found a great last minute deal about two months befor i left, I recommend looking at diffrent cruise ships and deciding which ship would work better for you. I went on Royal Caribbean and it was perfect for my age group. They have things to do for all ages, but the people on my boat seemed to be between the ages on 20 and 40. Read how I did it…

So, I’ve never been on a cruise before and came across a great deal on Travelzoo yesterday that actually leaves from San Francisco (rare) in October. It’s an 11-night’er to the Mexican Riviera, including stops in Topolobampo, La Paz, Mazatlan, Puerto Vallarta, and Cabo San Lucas. The deal also came with a $150 shipboard credit, as well as a cabin upgrade. This morning, Mark decided to book the cruise as a graduation gift (and I’m sure it’ll be a nice getaway from work for him too). I can’t wait!
I have no idea what I’m in for, but I definitely plan on utilizing as many of the free on board events/classes/etc as I can. I’m gonna learn to dance, sing karaoke (maybe), and even use the gym (or whatever is on the ship)!
I’ll also remember to bring my Dramamine…just in case.
we leave tomorrow for our Bahamian cruise and i’m so excited to get to the islands and then afterwards, Disneyworld!
we have been waiting/saving for the past 6 months for this trip and i am so excited! i have had the flu all week and have been crawling out of my skin wanting to get going. it was hard watching all my friends go to coachella knowing i couldn’t be there in the desert, but now its our turn to leave and it can’t come fast enough.

I want to take a plane ride from WA to FL and take a cruise from FL to the bahamas. Potentially on a spring break. =)
I like carnival cruise line.
we booked our honeymoon cruise (finally) for the beginning of may, 2 months from tomorrow. how exciting! especially because i’ve never been anywhere tropical before. well, i’ve been to florida but that really doesn’t count. speaking of, we booked the cruise out of cape canaveral in orlando where j.’s parents live, so we’ll be able to spend a few days with them and go to disneyworld wooo. don’t get me wrong i’m not one of these adult creepy disney freaks but believe you me i will show up on a tuesday night when theres no kids and get wasted and run around toon town. plus j. totally hates disney bc he grew up there so it will be fun to drag him around bc i know he will secretly want to go on space mountain 7 times.
thats ok, because i will too.

We think we are not really cruise people – at least not structured cruises. We may try freestyle cruising someday. We totally don;t regret the experience (I regret few experiences). I personally find suits on a boat an abomination. Dining with strangers? Not my thing. Being woken up every morning and daily activities… um no. That said I liked seeing islands and I loved the slow days at sea. Everyone raved about the food and we thought it was mediocre at best. It is the best that can be done when you are preparing food for thousands in assembly line fashion I guess. Also it was a good way to force yourself to slow down and chill. A balcony is a must.

For my 21st birthday My boyfriend (He’s my husband now.) took me to Disneyworld. We spent the first 4 days at all the parks but we took the last three days on the Disney Wonder. I know what your thinking. Way childish but believe it or not it was a whole lot of fun. There are lots of things for little kids to do sure but they take care of the adults as well. And once you get on the islands the natives are so welcoming and friendly that you may not want to leave when its time to board the ship again.
Ofcourse youll have to be careful because most cruises are taking you to places that arent U.S soil but as long as you follow the advice of the dock coordinator then you will have a great time.
Oh and dont keep your important paperwork in your purses and wallets. keep it in one of those money belts that go under your clothes. Nothing bad ever happened to me but i would rather be safe than sorry.

NEW DATE SET!!!
We are planning an anniversary cruise in 2011 – YEAH – that DOES seem like a LONG time, but AT LEAST we have a PLAN again!!!
For the first time in our six year relationship, my husband and I went on an honest-to-goodness vacation. We went to Tybee Island, GA just outside Savannah. It was really nice at the beach, even though we went on the off season to save money. After booking online, I started nosing around about a cruise and… to my horror, it would have been cheaper to take a five-night cruise than to book our hotel (in the off season) for five nights. Next vacation (hopefully next year and not in another six years), we will go on a cruise.
