I became interested in photography shortly after the birth of my first child. The camera was always in hand, but I found that I just wasn’t capturing the images the way I saw them in my head. After becoming increasingly frustrated, I decided to buy myself a good SLR and take some classes to achieve the look in my photos that I just wasn’t getting.
I managed to take all the classes at my community college and found that I had a REAL talent for photography. In fact, it became my passion! I had another daughter, and the camera never left my hand….ever. (I hate to admit it, but I have more photos than I know what to do with)
It eventually became my desire to start a photography studio shooting mainly families, babies, and children. I realized I couldn’t do this while my kids were still at home, so I am postponing it until my youngest is in school full time. (2 more years!) However, I’ve noticed that as life becomes increasingly more busy, I have less and less time to just go out and shoot.
Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE shooting kids, and I have ever chance to do so, as I am the resident photog for our mom’s group. But at the same time, I miss just going out on my own, camera and tripod in hand, spending hours shooting and just getting into the zone. It was so rejuvenating for me.
I don’t have the opportunity to leave my kids with my husband as he works off shore, so I find myself feeling stuck. It has become my goal this year to get out more often for ME. I need to reconnect with fresh ideas and new locales. It’s the only way to continue to grow as a photographer.

I do take pictures, but periodically. I have the equipment needed, all I have to do is take my camera out for a walk.
My idea right now is to take a photo of signs in the city, there are so many old, weird, cute and beautiful signs everywhere.

I have an online gallery to my photographs. We visit a place called Green Cay Wetlands frequently and we get some great “Everglades” like photos.

This was randomly inspiring and I just had to share. A friend of mine looked at one of my portfolio of sorts earlier today. When she asked where I got the photos from, I was insanely happy that she assumed there was no way I took those. It was very motivational, since I hadn’t shot a single decent thing in months. Nor had the desire to.

So far it’s been random photographs of the neighbourhood and my dog, but I’m looking into photography courses this summer

I enjoy it. =) I used to dream of becoming a Photo Journalist (is that one or two words?) for National Geographic, but now I think it’s worth it to just take the time and snap photos of whatever I feel moved to capture. I am not nearly an expert, nor are my photos the sort of engaging, moving types that I love to place on my walls, but I love to capture the world around me on film.
This is something that forces us to take a moment to breathe, to stop and appreciate what we are experiencing. One cannot take good photos without being engaged in the subject in some way (in my opinion). I have literally hundreds of photos I have taken in the past few years, and I need to get around to sorting them. Until then, I am content to take the photo and then delight in a remembered moment when I come across the photo at a later time.
My father taught us that there is no real need for pulling out a camera and snapping away during events of our lives, since memory holds more beautiful pictures anyway. I agree wholeheartedly, but it remains to be something I love to do… There are things, even small ones, that we can examine or experience in a different way when looking back at it later.
You will never catch me missing my children’s most important moments because I am busy making sure I “get the right shot,” but after those moments, I can grab the camera (photo or video, I love both) and bookmark that moment within the book of my life.
Maybe I’ll post a few of my snapshots up here, maybe not. I am content to have them. That is enough. =)
I would like to start taking more photos again, however, since this is another thing I rarely have time to fit into my day. One can never have too many captured memories. Like any memories, they are a marker of a life well lived. =)

I’m retiring this goal until I get a darn camera that’s worth the effort.

Still waiting for my camera. Mom, if you’re reading this?
???
Well, when I get it, you can expect to see a lot from me. I REALLY want to take pictures and I see great things to photograph all the time. Probably going to overload my flickr account on the first week.
