Proposition 8

Yesterday i went to support equal marriage at the Seattle Rally & March (that was timed in conjuction/support of the other national rallies).
I sort of missed the equal marriage movement in Canada by a few years but i remember hearing about the battle from friends who were there and i think the movements are similar.
There were several politicians present including Mayor Nickels (who was only mildly harangued by the audience for his recent injustices towards Seattle’s poor).
I showed up alone, made a friend and met with another i had lost touch with in the sea of likemindedness. It was and entirely fun and positive outlet for the frustration i feel about the injustices we subject each other to.
Its scary and difficult to look into our ever-more complicated world and decipher ourselves there. Where do i fit? Am i valuable? Valid? Dangerous? Boring?
I think i’ve done a pretty good job being myself in the face of judgement lately. I’ve got to keep it up, and do more to help open discussions where they are appropriate.

So, this evening, i was happily stitching in my chair when along scurried what i have discovered was a ‘house centipede’.
At first, i was freaked, and then disgusted, and then, the heat of disgust, i grabbed and handful of scrap fabric and smushed it into oblivion.
Although thoroughly unattractive (2.5 inches long with 15 sets of legs people!), it turns out that the house centipede is actual a beneficial insect. They eat other bugs, in and around the house and are generally pretty non-gross little manifestations of the deepest reaches of my hellish imagination.
So, in future… I will pause, and give the next one of these little things a fair 3 count to get away and continue to be a HIDDEN beneficial houseguest before i smush it back into the oblivion from whence it came.
EHeweweweeewww.
For the record, i took this revolting opportunity to learn and grow as a human being.

I’m so inspired by the regular people who do such extraordinary things and by extraordinary people who do ordinary things to help their fellow man.
There are so many ways to contribute to the evolution of our understanding each other.
I don’t know if an opportunity to really make this happen will find me, or if i’ll find it somehow.
For now i’m just going to be myself.
To commit to giving everyone an equal chance and the benefit of the doubt and to say what i feel when the subject comes up.
