My niece Lynn really wanted to see the whales so when we were in Vancouver, BC, we took the ferry to Victoria, BC, and went on a whale watching charter.
They are incredibly beautiful, sometimes scary, and the pods gliding along together were fascinating to watch. I’m glad Lynn was there to suggest an activity I’ll never forget.

I worry that it’s an extremely cliche dream, probably because I’ve wanted to for so long.

Whale watching boat was ok, but going to Lime Kiln Point State Park and seeing the whales MUCH closer and in a much more solitary place was SO much better! Partly we were just really lucky. I could have stayed there all day though. Got some incredible photos:

Whale watch boats stay pretty far from the whales.

Those little… I go to Canada, I go to Norway, I go to Shetland and there’s no sign. But I turn my back for a single week and they swan up the Firth of Forth massacring seal pups left right and centre. I only found out that they’d been hanging around last weekend and since I was going volunteering I couldn’t go visit Queensferry until today. It’s only half an hours journey from my house. I spent four hours wandering along the shore with my binoculars but there was nothing.
Bloody typical! They’re laughing at me I know… but it just makes me want them all the more.
