Get the hell out of Houston!

This is one crappy city.... 14 months ago

I have been wanting to leave since I was in college a few years ago. This is one dead city that lacks energy, too apathetic.

Too spaced out, lack of an identity, feel held back intellectually, stupid ignorant people, little culture compared to the other big cities, crappy live music scene for a city of its size, have to drive big distances to find anything to do.

It will take 3 to 4 more years to get another theme park. The only place I would live in Texas is Austin. Our public transportation is not even up to the standards of Dallas or Atlanta and it will also take 3 to 4 years to get a better public transportation system.

I want to get out of the south and go either to west coast or northeast. Stay here too long and this city will make you mentally sick. Get out and travel and experience real culture. Once I am out of here, I am NEVER looking back.

Stuck in Houston 18 months ago

I am 14 years old living in boring Houston. I cannot move, as I am still in Middle School, and my parents cannot afford to move. This is a terrible place to live, especially if you cannot drive yet. I live near a doughnut shop, a crappy local grocery store, a Popeyes Fried Chicken, and an outlet store. I also live near my old elementary school, where I ride the bus 6 miles to my middle school, and where I will ride the bus next year to high school. Other than that, I live near nothing. There is nothing to do near where I live. The buses are unsafe and full of lower-class suspicious-looking people, so that is not an option. The new light rail in this city is useless to me and many others, since to ride it you have to somehow get to a station. All my friends are stuck in similar situations. Not to mention, the heat is terrible during the summer. It regularly gets above 100 degrees. When I grow up, I resolve to get away from this place, and move to a more upbeat, pleasant city.

Houston - worst city in the world 2 years ago

I travel to Houston often on business. Have been there dozens of times. I am depressed for days knowing that I have to travel to that mega-dump.

I have to say this. Houston is BAR NONE the WORST city, and possibly the WORST place on earth. Even the poor and destitute villages of India and Saudi are better.

Houston does well at some things.
1. Strip Malls – about one per 5 people
2. Giant car dealerships. The ugliest things I have ever seen
3. Giant traffic jams
4. The FATTEST and UGLIEST people in the world. You can go an entire day without seeing someone normal weight
5. Crime!. Everywhere. You can’t even go for a walk without risking your life.
6. NO culture!. Just strip malls, garbage, traffic and nothing else. Doesn’t anyone there have half a brain? Doesn’t anyone do anything besides watch TV and eat McDonalds?

Here’s one of my favorite Houston stories;

I”m downtown, at a conference staying at a Hilton. I ask the door man where a good restaurant is. He says ‘about a block and a half North’. I go out the door and the guy hollers back to me ‘Hey, are you crazy!. You can’t walk there . . yo’d get Killed’

This is DOWNTOWN.

WTF?. How can anyone live in that hellhole?. I know there are a lot of jobs there. But really, is any amount of money worth living in the armpit of the world.

Houston – **ing worst place on earth.

There, I got that out of my system. I feel better now.

Texas Sux 2 years ago

Moved here from Nevada (originally from California and well traveled). This is the worst weather and one of the lamest cities I have ever visited. I’m not interested in history much so the Alamo and stuff of that nature isn’t worth visiting to me (though I have been there). This state is for dumb alchoholics and drunk cowboys. I have been here 3 years and wanted to leave after 3 days. Racism, ignorance and stupidity is all I see out here. Funny thing is that alot of ppl have degrees and act dumber than ppl in other states without degrees. I was renting an apartment not long ago and every month I went to go pay rent the office personnel told me a different price every month…even different from the amount on the contract. I was in school out here and the financial dept. called me into their office at least once per week when I transferred over from nevada. Can ppl count in Texas or is there a problem when they run out of fingers to count on? And whats funny about the statement ‘get r done’? Sounds pretty lame to me. Its not even funny, just ignorant as hell. I honestly don’t see what ppl see in this state, the women are fat and boring (feel like I’m talking to my grandmother when they start talking), the guys here my age (I’m almost 30) act like 5 year olds and the nightlife sucks (try fitting 3000 ppl in a building with a capacity of 700 and see how much fun you have, let alone try to dance). Texas really and truly sucks.

...but I came back for love 3 years ago

I admit I’m a little torn. On the one hand, there’s a lot people say that I still agree with, and more: the weather, the traffic, the mosquitoes, dirty, badly planned, no mass transit, WAY too spread out. I left for college, lived in Fort Worth for 10 years (and Dallas briefly) and adored it, and I still miss DFW altogether.

But I fell in love, moved back (which I swore I’d never do), and had a lot of people show me a different Houston than the one I grew up with. It’s far from perfect, I admit. But there are a ton of things that have grown on me like a fungus, and I’ve found ways to make it home.

All this said, I will never blame anyone who wants to get the hell out of here. And, full disclosure, I really hope to move back to northwest Dallas County or to Fort Worth someday. What I miss most (aside from my best friend)? Autumn and winter.

Next Year 3 years ago

I’ve been here all my life, every since I was 15 I wanted to leave. I’m 25 now. The weather is ridiculous. Hot in the winter, even hotter in the summer. Humidity, my god, I can’t keep a hairstyle with it. The Texas draw speaking people and the country accents, are getting on my nerves. I need a change of enviroment. I always wanted to live in New York. Next Year I’m getting the hell up out of here.

i grew up in h-town and always despised the weather. now i live in phoenix and love each and every day. i don’t even miss the green or the thunderstorms (although they are nice).

This miserable mosquito infested city is grating on my nerves. I want to get out so badly and move to California. Hopefully sooner rather than later…

Only 1,266 days until Houston is only reveiw mirror material.
