How to create an open source application
How I did it: I decided to write a quick and dirty Python script that would serve as an alarm clock, but only play when school was open (not play on snow days). This was fairly easy, but I decide to make it usable and distribute it under the GPL... making an interface is what took the most work. I don't have a lot of users (possibly not any) but it still feels good.
You can check it out at http://www.mgroat.com/clock It's still a work in progress, but it's usable.
Lessons & tips: Getting started was the hardest part. Don't worry if you're not very good at your programming language, you'll learn what you need to know as you go.

I’m not a ground up designer or programmer. I can give some ideas, but I’m not going to be the one behind the code. I did do a userscript for firefox, but that’s about it.
Let’s make a google map mashup that tracks wiki style all the roads in Nashville that are good for biking on.
whose with me?!
Well worth it, though I dont have as much time for it now as I would like.
