How to knit a pair of socks"Knitting socks is both fun and easy!"
How I did it: I followed the tutorial for "One Sock on Lessons & tips: Take your time and don't be afraid of those double pointed needles. They seem tricky at first, but I promise that it will get easier with time. And this is coming from the girl who almost poked her eyes out with rogue needles not once, but TWICE! ;) Resources: http://www.cometosilver.com/socks/ |

How I did it: I tried 5 different patterns over three years and read several descriptions of how to the heel-turning before discovering Addi turbo circular knitting needles and finally completing one sock. It took me a few months to tackle the second sock, but did finally finish a pair very recently! Read how I did it…
How I did it: I have been knitting for about a year and a half, so I decided it was time to concur the sock. Got the yarn and needles, and a book, then cast on and started. I did not work on it consistently, which is why it took so long, but I did finally finish! Read how I did it…

I would like to become more self-sufficient (and knitting socks would be one item to learn) so i can make them for the family and self. Knit socks? Yes.

One to go. They are for my daughter, and she hates matched socks, so I am knitting them as “coordinates” instead of “mates”.
I know I can do this, it’ll just take the time and experience.
so i have knit 1 and a half practice socks using the socks 101 tutorial at knitty.com. i need quite a bit more practice than i am on to an official (if simple) pair of socks.
DreamsLive is thinking
So far, I’ve only been able to knit one sock at a time and never finished a pair! I know there is a way to knit two at once, but I haven’t had the guts to try just yet! I’m working on a sock from Charmed Knits, but not in the Potter colors yet. I thought I’d try it in one color before I try the Potter colors. Also…because I don’t know how to change colors yet. I think I’ll add that to my list of things to do!
I’ve already got started on another pair. I love the simple satisfaction and they make great TV knitting.
This is just a simple sock pattern but I am so happy with how they turned out, and I am pleased with myself for sticking with it and figuring the whole thing out. I understand a lot more about knitting now, I can use DPNs and I’ve got to grips with shaping and decreasing. I even got the heels right on the first go!
So I’ve finally caught up with the sock knitting craze and learned how to use DPNs and turn a heel. I finished making my first sock yesterday and proudly wore it round the house all evening. It is so much more simple than I imagined, and I can see why people say it is so addictive. I’ve cast on for my second sock now so I should have a pair soon. I love it!
