I have been reading extensively about SOCIAL MEDIA througout 2009.
I want to do something with social media in Sudan, but this is a country that resists anything remotely serious – on the internet at least. So doing anything about social media will not have great rewards.
That has set me thinking though.. I can write a book, not on social media but something really close..
Something I call SOCIAL MARKETING..
I have two case studies which I can chronicle and expand on..
I am finally passionately excited about the book project..

False starts
I had two false starts
The first in the beginning of 2008,
then in the beginning of this year.
I still want to do it

I also want to write something different than what is on offer.
I am working for myself in a family business as well as on my own.
It is great to have all this freedom but the responsibility is daunting sometimes.
How to stay motivated despite everything ?
Sometimes you get so wound up you drive yourself sick out of tension.
The book (or a collection of tips) is along the line of making business fun, even for people who don’t own their businesses.
I am currently doing this via a weekly radio show, which is much easier than writing a book
(the show is three years old – which is an achievement in itself)

I am reading a Seth Godin book “Small is the new big” and his “riffs” are definately resonating with what I am thinking (and going through).
I definatelty think what I do in marketing is story telling, it is more compelling to see it that way.
I want a more fitting job title to what I do (giving corporations voice and stories to connect with their audience).
I suppose the job title “Brilliance Consultant” is a step in the right direction.

I’ve been thinking about this for a long time. I think I’m going to write about what it takes to really be in business. Not the usual. run of the mill kind of stuff though. More of an intellectual and emotional prep course for what you will experience. The ups and downs, the stress, anxiety, anger, disappointment, success and so on. I think it’ll have some sage advice from local entrepenuers what it takes to stay in business. It’s easy to get into business, not so easy to get out if you’re in it for any length of time. Of course, it will also have practical advice on considerations before you get into business. I see so many people “go into business for themselves”, and only dabble a little bit. They never really take the big plunge and go full speed ahead. They get frustrated, fearful, unsure, and eventually think the best solution is to get or keep their day jobs. Some of these people have great ideas, yet for many reasons, they drive themselves out of business. The purpose of my book would be to equip these people to start their business on the right foot to better their chances of success.
