31 January - Day 6 10 months ago

31 January – Day 6
And they were all “real” push-ups today, none of that “from the knees” stuff. Not that I’ll be able to do that every day… yet.

I do these in sets of ten. I managed one set of twenty today.

30 January - Day 5 10 months ago

30 January – Day 5
40 halfway decent ones.
I do this in sets of ten, with considerable rest periods between sets.

29 January 2009—Day 5

This was difficult today. Only ten of them were good form.

28 January 2009 -- Day 4 10 months ago

28 January 2009—Day 4

Thirty with reasonably good form. Tried to go fast on the lower-grade ones, to “feel the burn.” I felt it… kinda, anyway.

27 January 2009 - Day 3 10 months ago

27 January 2009 – Day 3

Thirty of ‘em were fairly decent. Seventy of ‘em were sloppy, weak, from-the-knees “girl” type.

26 January 2009 -- Day Two 10 months ago

Did it. Yeah, half of ‘em were “girl style” with bent knees, but, ya gotta do what’cha gotta do!

I’ve read that it’s more important to do push-ups with proper technique than to do a higher number with poor technique. However, I have so little upper body strength that I can barely manage a handful of “proper technique” push-ups. I need to build up a base level of strength and stamina before I can even achieve solid form.

That being said, I do pay attention to what I’m doing. I know that many of my so-called push-ups are little more than twitches (or, more likely, spasms). Still, I try to throw at least a few more-or-less proper push-ups into the mix. I’ll get better over time. Right now, I simply need to build up some stamina and strength through reps and time.

Lower back strength is also essential for good push-up technique. I’ve simultaneously resumed by sit-ups goal. This should eventually help my posture and abdominal and lower back strength, allowing for better push-up performance. At present, however, my muscle tone is absolutely non-existent.

I wonder how long it will take before I start noticing an improvement in muscle tone? More than two days, for sure!

Kung Hee Fat Choy! The Lunar New Year is off to an auspicious start! My intent is that it will keep getting better!

TWENTY-EIGHT MONTHS OF NO PROGRESS!

Jee-freaking-zuss! Imagine how much better shape I’d be in if I even did TEN PUNY LITTLE PUSH-UPS a day for TWENTY-EIGHT MONTHS!

I really, truly despise myself right now.

100 Pushups and Sit ups 15 months ago

I had knee surgery a couple of months ago. I was very active before the injury, but I’ve become fairly lazy since then. I’ve been fit most of my life so I can tell that I’m really out of it now. I’d like to get back in shape and this seems like a good way to start.

I’m going to attempt to do this for the first time tonight.
