I used to work for Wells Fargo as a Phone Banker (worst job ever!), and you just have to realize that people on the other end of the phone respond to sincerity. When people were jerks and got all huffy puffy and acted like it was their right to get their fees reversed, I read them the mandatory script saying no.
If people were honest, and said they made a mistake, and asked me to check to verify that they hadn’t had too many slip-ups, I gladly reversed fees as sort of my gift to mankind. Then again, if people went on and on and on about how broke they are and how hard times are, really playing it up, I didn’t have a lot of sympathy for that because it was kinda pathetic and fakey- you can just tell.
TIP: if someone says no, just call the 800 number back right away and ask someone else. They route the calls to other states, and a lot of times the system won’t reflect that you called because the comments haven’t updated from the last person.
I’ve seriously saved my friends 100s telling them to do this. try it.

That the FSA are planning a huge multi action against the banks. Great – I thought. Then I read on and discovred that in the meantime neither banks not courts have to deal with claims in the meantime. This may well go on for years apparently.
My silly fault for not getting on with it sooner :(
lotte123 is back!
first direct have made an offer in full for my claim – they actually offered me £30 more than I asked for. Brilliant – that’s another 7 or 8% of my debt gone. Woo hoo!!!!
lotte123 is back!
Yay! Received an offer in full from HSBC today – £960 including court fee. Such a relief to put an end to this one. First direct is next.
But, the irony! Got a £39 bank charge from my new bank today for a bounced direct debit!!! I will ask nicely and hope that does the trick!
I got my £641 pounds back from the Royal Bank of Scotland!! Whoo! So easy 2 letters and I’m done! No court or anything! Well done me!!
lotte123 is back!
Court documents prepared and sent off to HSBC today. Now I get to sit and wait to see if they make an offer!
lotte123 is back!
I now have 2 dates for my cases: 12 July for HSBC and 2 August for first direct. I was in a complete panic this morning but now am feeling a bit calmer. On top of everything else I could really do without having to prepare for court but the thought of getting some money back is keeping me going. I could clear another 2 debts with that money …
