renovate a home

I’m going to focus my 43 Things list on goals that are more short-term in nature. This is being moved over to my long term goal list on listsofbests.com.

And now, as I try to explain the things that are on my list, I get to the things on my list that no else has. I don’t know if anyone on 43 things knows this, but lots and lots of people want to and do renovate old homes to fit their needs every day. I’m talking about really renovating. Going down to the floor boards, scrapping off room full after room full of wall paper, and destructing entire kitchens and bathrooms. Oh, and I’m not talking about hiring a contractor and then standing around and giving orders, I’m talking about doing it yourself, and only hiring a contractor for the things you absolutely know you can not do yourself.

I want to do this not only because I’m obsessed with interior design and interior design shows (Debi Travis is my hero); but also for the satisfaction that must come with having renovated your own home. Walking people through your house not only to show how nice it is, but to show how much work you’ve done. Plus, the self satisfaction. Must be so cool.
