I’m currently 5’6” and 176 lbs. I decided it was time to crack the whip on shedding 46 of them after I went to an occupational health medical for a job I applied for. The doctor said that although I’m medically fit to work, I should consider the fact that I’m at least 25 lbs overweight. Reality check! I’ve been well-aware of this for a while, but it’s a bit difficult to have a surge of motivation when nobody really says anything to you about it. Doc wants me to get down to 150, but ideally I’d prefer to be down to 130.
It’s funny because I sort of saw myself as smaller than I really am. I had been running regularly about five years ago, but then I moved away to college and joined the ranks of lazy students. So that night after my appointment I started up again.
I ran the mile nonstop with ease, which surprised me. So every night I’ve been running the mile. Yesterday I pushed myself to a mile and a half. I’m aiming for two. I’ve also cut back on calories. I find myself checking nutrition charts on everything I eat, and if something has high calories, I don’t touch it. I don’t know how much I’ve lost because we don’t have a scale in the house, but it’s been a week since my appointment. I already feel better. 3 years ago

It took a month, but I lost the three pounds. The next goal is 1 more pound, which will mean I’ve lost 5 total (=10% of my total planned weight loss).
This is really hard, so all messages of support are welcome! 5 years ago

Victory! The next goal is three more pounds, which will take me down to the still-overweight-but-now-in-the-leaner-half-of-the-population-for-my-age-and-height category. Check back in two weeks to see how I fare! 5 years ago

My first mini-goal is to lose pound #1, which I’m naming “When-This-Is-Done-There-Are-Only-45-To-Go.” (If I spoke a cool agglutinating language, instead of English, that pound would have a sleeker name.)
Check back in a week to help me celebrate! 5 years ago
