Life is too full of money and materialism – we need to get back to basics

It’s terrible, well, for me anyway. I say splurge at every corner, take advantage of every opportunity, have anything you can as fast as you can have it. Maybe not the best way to live, but certainly the most fun.

In January 2007, i decided I was not going to buy anything that i did not need, and that included new clothes. That was not supposed to be difficult, since as a mature(ish) student, i never had any money anyway. the problem was, at that time I had the best paid job I’ve ever had, although still very low for most people. So I failed, thanks to the January sales I gave in and bought a dress, a skirt and a top.
Since then, I have not bought anything, apart form a bikini, which I needed. Since then, I also moved, and used all my clothing to pad the boxes, thinking that I would open them soon. That has not happened, so I have only what I carried with me on the plane! and it has almost been a year! and you know what? it has been great.
As for food, I am lucky to be married to somebody who can make the most delicious dinner out of leftovers or seemingly ‘nothing’, so that is great.
So i think i already do this, but i am about to move again, back to the Uk, where consumerism is much worse, and where I will again be working and studying. So let’s see how it goes!

Yup, I’m paid about $300 a month, I live here, and I still save! Wowsa. I get a new piece of clothing every other month or so, etc. Great job me, this new job really is making all my other goals a reality!

I can’t ‘technically’ check this off as I’ve done this since I am in first year university and have never left home, however, I know I always will live frugally since my parents do and I always have so I think it’s a pretty good indication that I will continue to be frugal my whole life. Thus, I am checking it off.

I want to learn to budget and live well below my means!! save money for rainy days or just to save up for a future of being on my own!
Every weekend I try and cook enough food for the week ahead, or at least 3 meals for during the week. The other nights we have canned spaghetti on toast. We take our lunch to work every day. We have $50 blow money a week to spend on what we like but now that we are in frugal mode we often use it to put on debt instead of spending it.
ok so I’ve done the craziest things just to live frugally but hey it works for me!
I’ve done these:
1.used rain water
2.used snow water
3.bought less
4.bought on sale
What other crazy ideas are out there? as far as less energy consumption?
I’d love to hear some ideas!
