Crochet a baby blanket.

I’m making a baby blanket for one of my friends who is having a bay. It’s really cute so far, can’t wait to see how it looks when I get it finished! The pattern is called “Baby Bubbles.” It’s got bumpy “bubbles” going across the whole thing.

Know anyone who needs a crocheted baby blankie? 10 months ago

I crochet so much, and so quickly, I now need to make some more friends so I can start giving away the excess blankets that I’ve completed! :)

I’ve got maybe 20cm square done so far. I’m working on the huge granny square idea, my crochet skills don’t extend much further than that ;-) It’s just rows of double crochet, rather than the normal three in a row then a gap. This should make it warmer and provide less holes for little fingers to get caught in.

I’m aiming to have it done for next winter to go on the cot. We’re only in the second week of spring now, so heaps of time!

I ended up not adding the scalloped border, because I’m not all that sure of my ability to make it work, and honestly the whole thing looked pretty without adding more. It’s the four-color rainbow blanket, and I added two rows of shimmery white in single-stitch around all four sides (gods was THAT a pain in the ass, since I did double-stitch for the rainbow stripes and had to find places to anchor the single-stitch down each side) for a contrast, and it really brought out the colors and made the whole thing more vibrant.

I know it’s not totally even (some of the rows waver a bit), and to anyone who actually crochets regularly it’s probably pretty amateurish. But the point is, it’s made with caring. I’m taking pics of it tomorrow to post, and then it’s in the mail, and actually BEFORE the kid is born, no less. Damn, I’m impressed with myself.

I finally finished crocheting a baby blanket! 19 months ago

Well to make a long story short, I started crocheting a baby blanket in one of my classes, then I let it sit in a closet for many months and the following winter I finished it! Let it be known that the only ‘thing’ I know how to do is make granny squares or just make a basic double crochet. But for this blanket I created my own stitch, I was kinda a cross between a double crochet and a triple crochet. The blanket is light purple and it has a border of multicolored baby yarn. The border is bumpy and looks like seashells, I don’t know what you call it? But all I know is that I crocheted a baby blanket, it turned out amazing, and I am happy!

So I’d basically given up on it. But then, another friend of mine is having a baby next month, and I decided to make them a blanket. Within a few days of that, Becky was complaining to me that Emma’s baby blanket had gotten lost somehow (dropped out of the baby bag in a store, nobody had found it) so I’m back on for finishing the blanket.

The blanket I’m making for Emily (my friend Robbie’s daughter) is a totally different style than Emma’s patchwork squares. On my mom’s suggestion, I’m using four colors and going in stripes, but I’m doing three rows of one color, using two strands, then two rows with one strand of the first color and one strand of the second color, then three rows of the second color, and so on, so that it fades nicely from one to the other. I’m going blue to green to yellow to pink back to blue, and the only transition that isn’t smooth and fade-looking is the pink-to-blue. But it still doesn’t look bad at all, and I’m about two thirds of the way done with it. Wish me luck!

my 1st crochet baby blanket 20 months ago

I gave my best friend a baby blanket that I made. I had never crochet a blanket only scarves before. She had named her baby after me and it touched me so much. I made the blanket using my favorite colors and she wraped him up in it everyday when he was small. Now grant is 20 months old and walking so she put it in a bag for him to keep as a momemtum of his 1st blanket.

Enjoy crocheting and keep it up. I enjoy it immensly!
