Teach an Adult to Read

I want to teach my girl friend to read. shes 18 and has been put down so many times about reading she has no confidence. No one has ever tried to help her so i have come along to pick up the task. If you have any tips please help me.

I’ll put this back on when I have time to really dedicate to it.

my training to become a tutor. I have received my first assigned student and I’ve made contact to set up our initial session. Both of us are very excited to have this opportunity. My student seems very motivated and came across as having a fun loving personality. I will probably learn just as much as I teach in this situation and I am so looking forward to the exchange.

I attended a course a couple of years ago to allow me to do this but I never quite got around to enrolling properly in the volunteer programme. The local Women’s Library are looking for tutors to teach asylum seekers basic literacy and numeracy. They will contact me when they have a space for me.

I volunteered for the Literacy Council of Kitsap County for a year or so, and during that time, I had a couple short term students and one long term student.
Helping people enhance their reading skills was the major goal here, but I was also able to help with job applications and a multitude of other paperwork situations that most of us take for granted. It was a very rewarding experience.
