I have applied at at least 20 places and not one has called me back. The first place I went to get an application, I was able to set up an interview right away, thought it went well, but never got a phone call back. I’ve applied at Reebok, The GAP, Borders, Converse, Vanity Fair, and one other retail store that has blanked out in my head at the moment. I also applied at Bealls, Publix, McDonalds, Taco Bell, KFC (those fast food places having applications online), and tried Big Lots, but they wouldn’t even give me a form.
I went out to restaurants along a steady tourist area: Perkins, Ihop, Chilis, Cracker Barrel, TGI Fridays, Dennys, Cici’s Pizza, ARBY’S! Then I went to the little mall and applied at the Bealls outlet, Burlington Coat Factory and Fun Spot Jr. who told me that they’re not hiring, but let me fill out an application anyway.
Some of the restaurants were looking for hosts or servers, but a lot of them didn’t say they were even hiring right now. I’m seventeen years old, and I know the economy is tough, but it’s just really difficult for me to wrap my head around this. I didn’t attempt to get a job last summer because I wasn’t driving, and I wasn’t even in Kissimmee the whole time. It’s bad enough that gas prices started to go up drastically right after I got my license, but I can’t drive at ALL without a job.
I don’t mean to complain, and I’m not really, I just gotta keep applying. My parents suggested hotels, but I’m not sure that they’ll even consider a teenager with minimal job experience. I don’t have “connections” to be referred by someone. Neither of my parents work. They both collect social security disability but that covers basic things if that.
Times are tough, I get that.
I understand it, I just don’t like it.
=\
