Hand and Hand... 2 months ago

I would love to learn how to read music play it and write it. And also learn to write songs the proper way. I believe it to go hand and hand with singing considering this is my main goal in life… I’ve already singed up for free lessons online but free only gets you so far..

I have to keep telling myself that it is never too late to learn something new and improve your life. For some reason i have it in my head that you need to be young to learn a trade. I’m slowy coming out of this way of thinking. I’m going to take the step and ask my voice teacher to teach me.

Music is my life. I love to sing. It’s in my heart and soul. It’s what I want to be. Problem is I can’t write very well lol. Also I don’t know how to play an instrument really well. I’ve been learning acoustic guitar and the piano but I’ve been teaching myself and I’m not a good teacher lol. I guess my goal is to write a full song complete with music. I’ve written 2 fairly good songs in the past 3 months lol. I have a bit of a crowded mind so words don’t come to me I’m to busy worrying about everything else. I guess I really have several goals to complete in order to complete one full goal lol. I have to learn to write and play and then learn to put it together lol. Man I have a lot of work but it’s totally worth it. I don’t want to be one of those people that just sing what everyone else has wrote. I want to write and express my feelings through my own words and my own voice.

Not necessarily music but... 3 years ago

I’m a guitarist and have been playing for about 10 years and peforming for about 8 of them. Granted most performances were for my church so it’s not as glorious as being a rock star, but I’ve had my chance in the spotlight outside of church a few times. What I really want to do is hone my musical abilities and take them to another level. I’ve also become much more serious about coming up with original material. I’ve had the riffs and tunes, but I’ve never put any lyrics to them which is what I’m working towards now. I have a small zoom multitrack that I am working with right now. So, technically I’ve completed this task, but I don’t think I’ll mark this as done until I have three song arrangements (complete with lyrics) done.

These days I’m listening to music outside of my car (!) and learning to feel the music at shows and rock out physically. Jeff the friend is teaching me drums and bass. Piano is probably a solid foundation for writing music? I will learn that too. In learning the basics, I’ll make some random errors and find something worth recording and working on.
