Still have been doing pretty good. During the summer I took naps in the morning, afternoon, and evening. This past week I have banned my morning and afternoon naps, and sleep for like an hour in the evening when my homework tires me out.

I sleep too much, more than 14 hours. My body aches and sometimes my bones crack. I can’t stop sleeping. Even I sleep enough, I still sleep on the bus. When I’m awake, I never get to my bus stop. Moreover, whenever I try to read my homework, my eyes get tired immediately. I need to stay awake to finish my homework. Somebody help me, I need help!
Sincere,
Huy
I have been doing better at controlling my sleeping habits, and during the time that I’m awake I have been doing my constructive activities. I’m still not at the level that I want.. not even close. But its progress.
I’m 18 and I sleep so much. It is ruining my life. I never get anything done, I can never stay awake even when I am doing something fun, and sometimes I sleep until my body aches. Usually about 14 hours a day. My room is a mess, my school work never gets done, I dont have a job but desperately need one, and sometimes I want to stop seeing my friends or family just so I can sleep.
If anyone has any tips for me please let me know. It is almost impossible for me to just “stop sleeping so much”. Just like its impossible for you to tell an obese person to “stop eating so much”. It is a horrible habit and my brain has been programmed to believe that I need to sleep.
EDIT:
I have been looking into causes of this. Depression is one, but I think my reason is probably a mix of depression and boredom. I am trying to find ways to keep myself busy. I always say Ill clean my room instead, but I never do. I mean something like a hobby.. art or music or something.
Leoreai Music is good for the soul.
I LOVE to sleep, but in my current situation I wake up and know that the bed I sleep in is just a temporary fix. I think I am doing well. I am not sleeping for over 14 hours at a time, and still able to function really well.
I think my goal will be complete when I have my own space, and still happily wake up on time.
i work part-time and im a part-time student. i can sleep up to 15 hours a day. Its horrible i hate it. I wonder if im depressed or if its the fact that i just quit smoking a week ago but ive always been able to sleep along period of time. I want to get a hobie i think i may start walking. AND THE DREAMS!!! the dreams are amazing i remember every since one i could right a book series on my dreams there so intense and real. I sleep so long that i wake up with excrutiating headaches that last all day and tylonol doesnt help. Ive been sick lately too but i feel so guilty when i sleep alot because my boyfriend is such a hard worker. I even can go to bed at 11 or 12 but i dont wake up til 12 or 2 its bad. I NEED HELP. well im gunna go to the walk in clinic
i seem to just lay there…i even try setting an alarm after about 9.5 hours..
but of course i turn it off..
lastnight i didnt put an alarm on.
i woke at 9 when my bf got up to go to work
but of course i went back to sleep.
until about 1pm.
thats just shit!
and i know that sleeping too much is actually quite destructive to your well being.
i feel extremely ashamed when ive slept 12 hours.
so years ago ive been diagnosed with..
*severe clinical depression
*hypothyroidism [an underactive thyroid gland]
and so im on antidepressants and thyroid medicine and all these other medicines etc etc..
im more than sure its either the depression/hypothyroidism or the medicine that makes me tired.
sux!!
common symptoms of an under active thyroid are:
Many symptoms can be caused by a low level of thyroxine. Basically, everything ‘slows down’. Not all symptoms develop in all cases.
- Symptoms that commonly occur include: tiredness, weight gain, constipation, aches, feeling cold, dry skin, lifeless hair, fluid retention, mental slowing, and depression.
- Less common symptoms include: a hoarse voice, irregular or heavy menstrual periods in women, infertility, loss of sex drive, carpal tunnel syndrome (which causes pains and numbness in the hand), and memory loss or confusion in the elderly.
If you have untreated hypothyroidism:
- You may have an increased risk of developing heart disease. This is because a low thyroxine level causes the blood lipids (cholesterol, etc) to rise.
- If you are pregnant, you have an increased risk of developing some pregnancy complications. For example: pre-eclampsia, anaemia, premature labour, low birth weight, stillbirth, and serious bleeding after the birth.
- Hypothyroid coma (myxoedema coma) is a very rare complication.
who is effected by it?
About 1 in 50 women, and about 1 in 1000 men develop hypothyroidism at some time in their life. It most commonly develops in adult women, and becomes more common with increasing age. However, it can occur at any age and can affect anyone.
Ok i recently dropped out of college because my dad got sick. SO i have no job back at home, and i recently quit taking anti- depressants that i had been on for 4 years. I’m not depressed but for some reason i sleep minimum of 12 hours a day if not 15+. Since there are lots of things that need to get done every day, this is not a good thing. So i’ve ended up not sleeping for 2 days and then sleeping for one because i somehow have this idea in my head that if i sleep i get in trouble. Lately that pretty much is the way it works. I’ve tried going to bed early but then i just sleep longer, if i set alarms i never hear them or never get up, no one seems able to wake me up and this whole thing is really starting to anger me. My family doesn’t trust me to take care of anything and when you’re getting to know siblings you haven’t seen in 12+ years that’s not very good. Any suggestions? I found this site orginally looking for a way to stop sleeping alltogether but i didn’t find much and caffeine is really just killing my body. Any help would be appreciated
Im making a vow to myself not to sleep so much. I have about 9 1/2 hours sleep a day and it never seems enough. I work full time, eat healthly and exercise regularly but still seem to feel sleepy all the time.
I've had blood tests which have ruled out anemia and thyriod problems. Maybe im just going to have to get a hobbie, something to keep me more active ?Im 24 years old and I feel like I have been wasting the past 2 years of my life. Its strange really never had a problem before, but now I sleep way way to much. I sleep 12 or more hours a day. Granted I dont go to bed at what people might call appropriate times of the night. Hey lets face it im a night owl, I sleep during the day! I would love to get back to what I guess people call the average amount of sleep like 7 or 8 hours. Im finding it difficult, I just want to lay in bed. I have plenty to do with my time, but spend it sleeping. Would love to get back to seeing daylight for more then a few hours.
