This weekend my favourite comic artist/writer, Darwyn Cooke, wound up at a party at my old apartment and saw some of the paintings I’d done of his work. Apparently he and his girlfriend freaked out, loved them, and asked to meet me later on.
I saw them the next day at a book festival and found all this out. I’m so flabbergasted that my stuff was admired at all, especially by the guy who does my favourite comics. I went out today and got new paint brushes so that I can get started on some new stuff.

I started a cute little painting of one of the characters from this Japanese video game for playstation. I think I may do a whole series of them, they’d be so cute in a kid’s room or something. Not that I have kids.

I am tossing ideas around for my next painting. I tend to be very picky and don’t paint very often, it’s more a therapeutic thing for me. I really want to paint something with a Japanese theme to it, maybe some cherry blossoms or a neat kimono pattern…

I’ve been doing really well this summer so far. I don’t get to paint as often as I’d like, partly due to time and partly due to lack of ideas. I just finished a wicked painting of Catwoman, from a comic book cover that I really liked. I am going to start a new one for my friend Jess soon, and this time I’m thinking something along the lines of an art deco style, maybe a old Vogue magazine cover…
