I have four houseplants right now. One is hanging on for dear life and the other three are too new to judge. The ones in my office seem to be doing better.
How to keep a houseplant alive
How I did it: Get a plant that isn't too fussy. I have good luck with lilies and jade plants. Water it when it gets dry, but don't water when the soil is still damp. Move it around until you get the "right" amount of light. Enjoy!
Lessons & tips: Replant from the store pot with good, indoor plant soil. Outdoor plant soil can bring worms into your house (ewwww).
Water when it gets dry, keep in the light, and fertilize when you forget when the last time you fertilized was (like once a season).
