LL is EXCITED! Matty got his visa!!
My pick for Show and Tell is my nephew, D. He’s twelve years old, tall and wiry (he’ll be taller than me, soon), and a cheeky bugger to boot.
He has a diagnosis of verbal dyspraxia, which means that he has difficulty with voluntary oral movements and therefore making precise movements required for speech sounds. It affects how intelligible his speech is, and means that a word such as “dog” could come out as dog/dod/god/gog, to name a few variations. He’s worked hard over the years, having had a lot of speech therapy. D’s speech has certainly improved, but it will probably always cause him difficulties.
D is a clever kid, with a fantastic sense of humour. He has a lovely, caring personality. He’s very energetic… he almost managed to keep up with Matty on some of his runs. I should point out here that although I’m still favourite aunt, Matt has replaced me as overall favourite. (When we were staying with them last holidays, all of D’s decisions were based upon what Matty might be doing.)
D’s about to enter the teenage years. It’ll be interesting to see how that affects him. Somehow, I think he’ll always be the same wonderful soul, and he’ll always be my favourite boy in the whole wide world.

I was going to show Bella but pretty much everyone’s seen her. And if I talked about one niece or nephew, I’d have to talk about all 5 of them, and then I’d never shut up and end up losing all my subscribers. So I picked my dad, and as today’s his birthday (75!!!), I thought this would be a good day to show him off!!!
My dad, Bob, was born on a farm in Southeast Kansas during the depression and has one older sister and one younger sister. His grandparents lost their farm when he was 6 years old, so his father packed up his farm machinery and went to work for other farmers in eastern Kansas, moving almost every year (that’s the way it was done back then). He learned the meaning of hard work the hard way—by necessity; farming during the depression and the dust bowl was NOT easy. By the summer before he was a senior in high school (1948), my dad had saved enough money to help his parent make a down payment on their own farm.
He worked his way through college (Kansas State, of course), where he met my mom. He graduated in January of 1954, joined the army, married my mom, and, in 1956, went to work for the Soil Conservation Service of the USDA. In 1963(?), he took a course in computer programming at Purdue University (Indiana) and so excelled in it that he was asked to help teach the class the next semester.
He retired from the SCS in 1988 as the assistant director of engineering (of the whole shebang). Since then he has operated a very successful consulting business, working mainly with surveying programs and equipment. When he’s not working (or taking a nap in front of the TV), he can be found on his computer, at his blacksmith forge, on his tractor, cutting wood, putting a new roof on his house, cracking (and eating) black walnuts, working in his garden, or spending time with one of his 6 kids or 5 grandkids. This weekend, he’ll be spending time with ME!!!
NOW, aren’t you glad I didn’t talk about ALL my nieces and nephews!!!

Deni H is juggling a lot of balls right now.
This goal will be fulfilled when my secret project is over. I’ll share it with everyone at that point and accomplish this goal, too. :D

wraiths82 is daydreaming about possibilities!
completely me. When I first started, it was a bombardment of ideas and a few saying “be like me” and I got a little lost there. Now happily I’ve found my way and even though there are some bad days, the majority now are good or great. As I get to know my students each year, and try to show them some of what is out there through my teaching, I feel like I am bringing some knowledge to them and they to me sometimes. I like the ebb and flow of it.
This picture is of my reading area in class, that another teacher started the mural and I changed some of it more to my taste. We have a 30 minute block of reading at the end of the day and this is one place in my classroom that gets a ton of use!

why this goal is still on my list after I marked it as done? It’s just plain wierd. When I placed an entry, it also popped up a second time on my goal list. When I marked it as done, only one of them disappeared.

Like many Singaporeans, we are so proud to be a nation so young and yet so strong and peaceful. It took us just barely less than 30 yrs to build a successful and rich nation since independence!
Despite lack of natural resource, we are proud to have made it our way as a successful country!! Unlike most countries with rich resources, the only resource we could depend on is “human resource”. Our people are our nation’s wealth. Just like our national anthem, regardless of race or religion, we are able to live harmoniously and peacefully!!
Singapore, the global city, is our hopes and dreams, an island of opportunities, and most importantly,{color:blue} A LAND OF PEACE!!
We’re truly an unique country! Happy Birthday Singapore, we love you!!
Our new theme song for this year celebration =)
(Delicate for all Singaporeans including those who are currently studying or working in overseas now..This song symbolized us as a global city and being global people, yap, travelling is in our blood :))
