I may change my mind about whether or not this was worth it, depending on if I WIN, but I would say go for it.

    KENYA!!!  — 2 years ago

i have been looking at the united states international university in kenya… and i would love to get a scholarship to work there for 10 months. it seems like a very diverse institution with a lot of opportunities. they have a counseling center for the students… and working there would be a treat… i would love to see if there was any way that i could not only teach but also do pscyhotherapy with the usiu community. we’ll see. i just need to contact the institution to see if this would be something that they are looking for. i also need to figure out whether or not i want to apply for the 2007 awards (the deadline is in august of this year!)... i don’t meet the 5 years postdoctoral qualification, so i am a little discouraged… but i will guess i’ll just have to make the appropriate contacts and see.

    Well, I APPLIED....  — 2 years ago

    Worth doing!

I actually did it and while chances are I won’t actually BECOME a Fulbrighter…I went through the entire process of applying. I think I should get a prize just for that!

It’s such a hassle to do, but in the end my writing is SO MUCH BETTER, I am more FOCUSED on my studies and interests, and my proposal writing has IMMENSELY improved!

OK, so it looks like Version 10.0 of my proposal is a GO. So far, 4/4 people approve! :) And 1/2 of those people hadn’t seen the old one. And one of those persons was my high school principal, who was a Fulbright-Hayes Fellow just a few years ago. The other two were good friends, and the other was the Fulbright Advisor at school who said “i have nothing to change, what you just sent me is very, very good”....now I’m working on the Narrative, but I am somewhat more comofrtable with this…I just LOVE talking about me…hehehe.

If I don’t get it I will be upset, but I’m proud of that I’ve stuck through the entire process. I’m proud of what I’m turning in. I still wish I could make it better, but I’m just gonna go with what I’ve got.

Over 100 people will apply for 15 positions, and probably a lot of them are more qualified than me. But I’m giving them a run for their money. So take that all you annoying Ivy-league snobs.

I’m going on my sixth draft of my proposal…but I think it’s good this time. I mean, I THINK it’s good. I certainly hope so. Tomorrow my spanish proff will take a look, and depending on what she says….we’ll see. After she looks at it and I fix it, I will send it to Charles, Claus, Lluis, and Coach Bob. After they see it…we’ll see. Hopefully I’ll only have to fix it a few more times. Gosh this takes forvere.

As far as contacts go, I’m making some progress…but it’s not easy and I’m worried about not getting everything in on time. EEEEEK!

    1) Set up a meeting with Prof.Sternstein for tomorrow which means…
    2) I will HAVE to finish my draft TONIGHT
3)...which will be do-able since I don’t have any obligations and MY PRINTER HAS ARRIVED TODAY (So I can print things)
4)I spoke to the Language Dept. and the chair is willing to RECOMMEND ME since I was a TA in the past and am currently one again

    Small, small steps…but soon I’ll get a going….
