Hey- planning my first trip to India. Where should I go if I only have 2 or 3 weeks?

How I did it: I went with the flow, baby. Used the Rough Guide to India, didn't make plans ahead of time, instead let the country, the trains, the people, and other travelers guide me. Went places and saw things that I never would have planned but I wouldn't have changed a thing. Lessons & tips: Save up! Don't prepare or plan too much. Don't take any stupid
Resources: Friends who have traveled there before, Rough Guide to India, a GOOD travel doctor who knows what s/he is talking about.

Having born and raised in India, I havent experienced much of India outside of the south. The himalayas have intrigues me. Not sure when I will do this, with family and little kids in Canada

...so many of my 43Things were travel related. This is firmly in the “one day” department as currently, I have neither the time or the money to do this. When I do it (as I will) it’s gotta be for a long period and it’s gotta be down and dirty. I want total immersion and total culture shock from India. Any less just wouldn’t be cricket.

I think Goa is maybe a good place to start..less daunting than some of the madness in say, Delhi.. Good friendly back packer vibe..my cousin has been there a few times on her own and loves it! Happy travels! :)

Logistically, If you are going to go to India alone as I think I will, does anyone know a good starting point? Where you are likley to meet other travellers? What is the best time of year to do this? How much cash do you think I will need for say 3 months? Do I need a visa (UK)?

Don’t think about it, just do it!Drop everything and go. I had both the best and worst experiences of my life there. You will leave India a different person. It really is an exhausting country but something about it makes you want to return. I can’t put my finger on it, the only way to understand is to go and experiance it for yourself.
